The needle is rotatably mounted on the hinge such that when the tip is placed against bone and the needle is rotated on the hinge, the needle is urged and advanced into the bone. Preferably, the at least one needle is a first and a second needle. Alternatively, the needles may rotate about the same hinge or different hinges.

The device also includes one or more apertures on each of the compression elements sized and configured to receive the insertion elements of an applicator instrument so that a force applied by the applicator instrument brings the device and compression elements from their open arrangement to their closed arrangement. A system and method for use of the device is also discussed.
