In one aspect of the invention, a power supply regulator having a peak current limit detection threshold and an operating frequency is disclosed. The peak current limit threshold or the operating frequency are adjusted specifically to maintain the Ipm·fn product substantially constant from one power supply controller to another where m is substantially equal to 2 and n is substantially equal to 1. In another aspect of the invention, the power supply regulator has a control circuit having a control threshold current. The peak current limit threshold or the operating frequency are adjusted specifically to maintain the product of Ipm·fn divided by the control threshold current substantially constant from one power supply controller to another where m is substantially equal to 2 and n is substantially equal to 1.

摘要： Techniques are disclosed to select functional parameters and/or operating modes of a circuit based on a time measurement are disclosed. One example integrated circuit includes a threshold detection and timing circuit that is coupled to measure a signal during an initialization period of the integrated circuit from a multifunction capacitor that is to be coupled to a first terminal of the integrated circuit. A selection circuit is coupled to the threshold detection and timing circuit to select a parameter/mode of the integrated circuit in response to the measured signal from the multifunction capacitor during the initialization period of the integrated circuit. The multifunction capacitor is coupled to provide an additional function for the integrated circuit after the initialization period of the integrated circuit is complete.

摘要： A method which regulates a power supply is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, the method includes sensing an excess control current through a control terminal with a control current sensor circuit. A transistor is switched with a control circuit in response to the control current sensor circuit and an oscillator that is coupled to a trim circuit, which is trimmed during manufacture of a circuit, to regulate the output of a power supply. A current through the transistor is limited with a current limit circuit that is coupled to the trim circuit, which is trimmed during manufacture of the circuit. A maximum deliverable power value of the power supply is determined by said trimming of the trim circuit during manufacture of the circuit.

摘要： A regulator circuit maintaining an approximate constant current output characteristic. In one aspect, a disclosed regulator controls a switch that has a current limit threshold. A supply terminal and feedback terminal of the regulator are connected together as a control terminal such that a shunt regulator current is the control terminal current in excess of the internal supply current consumed by the regulator. The current limit threshold of the switch is changed as a function of the shunt regulator current. In another aspect, a control input of the regulator circuit receives a current that is the sum of the internal supply current consumed by the regulator circuit and a feedback current. The feedback current is a fraction of the consumption current of the regulator circuit and the current limit threshold of the switch is changed as a function of the feedback current.

In one embodiment, a regulation circuit includes a semiconductor switch and current sense circuitry to sense the current in the semiconductor switch. One embodiment of the regulation circuit is used in a power supply having an output characteristic having an approximately constant output voltage below an output current threshold and an approximately constant output current below an output voltage threshold.

In one embodiment, a switched mode power supply includes a power supply regulator coupled between a positive input supply rail of the power supply and a primary winding of an energy transfer element. The reflected voltage across the primary winding of the transfer element is related to the output voltage across a secondary winding of the energy transfer element according to the turns ratio of the energy transfer element. The power supply regulator is coupled to regulate the reflected voltage across the primary winding, thereby regulating the output voltage across secondary winding. In one embodiment, the reflected voltage across the primary winding is sensed through a current representative of the reflected voltage received by the power supply regulator.
