    • A “human motion tracking” device (HMT) that translates natural body movements into computer-usable data. The data is transmitted to a simulation application as if it came from any conventional human interface device (HID). This allows an individual to interact with the application without the need for a conventional computer input device (e.g., a keyboard, mouse, etc.). The HMT captures a user's heading as well as the individual's current stance (i.e. standing, sitting, kneeling, etc.). The HMT accomplishes this by using two sensors known as an accelerometer and magnetometer to produce digital input. The digital data will then be passed from the HMT to the application.

    • A flexible, programmable messaging system and method for associating specific happenings with particular services and users associated with those services is disclosed. The contact means for the users are held in a single database with retrievable historical information regarding the user and/or the service. Users and administrators are defined where the user may exercise a group of predetermine privileges. Users may subscribe and un-subscribe to one or more services. The administrator may exercise more privileges or all the privileges, and the additional privileges will include creating messages related to specific happenings, editing of the billing for the service, editing subscription forms, managing the members of a service and tracking the delivery of message. The presentation pages and the messaging format are arranged using templates with predetermined information and formats that may be programmable. The system is arranged in a client/server arrangement where standard servers can be used. The users administrators, and messaging systems include virtually all forms of communications.

    • Resolution of perspective in three dimensions is necessary for intermeshing real players into simulated environments during virtual training exercises. With the advent of high resolution image sensors the ability to sense position and orientation using image capture devices is possible. The combination of small sized sensors and image recognition tracking algorithms allows the tracking element to be placed directly on the device whose perspective is desired. This provides a solution to determining perspective as it provides a direct measurement from the center axis of the observer. This invention employs a perspective tracking device to determine a point-of-gaze or a point-of-aim in a three-dimensional space to a high degree of accuracy. Point-of-gaze may be used to determine views for head mounted displays and aim-points for weapons. The invention may operate in an unconstrained space allowing simulation participants to operate in a larger, open environment. Areas of interest in the environment are bounded by area of interest markers which identify the region and its physical constraints.

    • A system and method employing visual tracking devices to locate simulation players and objects within an enclosed space. These visual tracking devices capture a perspective view of the arena and analyze the image at a fixed perception frame rate. Each player and object to be tracked is identified by a light-emitting device called a tracking point source, which is identified in the environment by means of a unique code sent out by the device and received by the visual tracking device. By using multiple tracking point sources, the invention may not only determine positions but also determine the orientation (relationship) between players and objects. A third component in the invention performs frame-to-frame analysis of all visible point sources to determine motion in three dimensions, which is forwarded to the simulation environment where it is used to enmesh the player in the simulation.
