    • An apparatus for monitoring an air conditioner is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first wireless device connected to the air conditioner, and a second wireless device connected to a monitoring terminal. The first wireless device transmits and receives monitoring result information and monitoring-related information based on a monitoring program installed in the monitoring terminal in a local-area wireless communication manner, and the second wireless device transmits and receives the monitoring-related information and monitoring result information based on the monitoring program in the local-area wireless communication manner. Therefore, local-area wireless communication can be carried out between the air conditioner and the monitoring terminal, thereby making it possible to significantly save trouble for installation of monitoring instruments, such as cables and a converter, and to significantly curtail costs and manpower for monitoring work.

    • An automatic gain control (AGC) circuit of a high definition television (HDTV) signal receiver and a method to compensate for a change in amplitude of a high definition signal. The AGC circuit of the high definition signal receiver includes a non-coherent AGC signal generator for generating a first AGC signal according to the magnitude of the IF signal, a coherent AGC signal generator for generating a second AGC signal according to the magnitude of the segment synchronizing signal, and a selector for selecting the second AGC signal when the segment synchronizing signal is detected and the first AGC signal when the segment synchronizing signal is not detected and providing the selected signal to a tuner/IF demodulator. The amplitude of the received signal is controlled within a short period of time using the non-coherent AGC generator and method having a fast response time before a system is stabilized and the amplitude of the received signal is controlled more correctly using the coherent AGC generator and method after the segment synchronizing signal is detected.

    • An apparatus for detecting a field sync signal in a HDTV includes a sign bit selector for selecting only a sign bit from a received HDTV signal; a correlation portion for determining the correlation value of the selected sign bit and a predetermined reference signal; a detector for comparing the correlation value with a threshold value, to thereby determine a field sync timing signal; and a generator for generating a field sync signal which has a logic "HIGH" level during one field sync segment interval in response to the field sync timing signal. Here, only one MSB of input data is selected and then correlation with the reference signal is determined. Accordingly, a field sync signal which has a logic "HIGH" level during one field segment interval in each field can be accurately detected, and thus a hardware structure is simplified.
