One example method includes receiving a textual input that forms a part of a user request, the textual input in the form of a prefix that when complete constitutes the request. The method further includes identifying completions based on the prefix, determining one or more content items associated with each completion, computing initial scores including a score for each content item-completion pair including determining a likelihood that a given completion represents the request and a quality of the content item as compared to the completion, computing final scores including scores for each prefix-content item pair using the initial scores, computing a bid for each content item, running an auction to select a content item based on the bids and final scores, and identifying display data associated with the selected content item.

    • A method and mechanism for modifying computing resources in response to application behavior. A computing system includes a replication component configured to replicate data storage from a first data volume to a second data volume. In addition, the replication component is configured to monitor application I/O characteristics and store related statistics. I/O characteristics may include size, concurrency, locality, and frequency. I/O characteristics which are stored, and guidelines for modifying system resources based on those characteristics, may be displayed for use by an administrator in tuning system resources. Periodically, or in response to detecting an event, the replication component may automatically access the statistics and modify the system resources used by the replication system to better accommodate the application's behavior.

    • A method, system, computer system, and computer-readable medium that identify the number of times areas of storage are updated and use that information to synchronize primary and secondary storage areas. The invention enables quick resumption of operations upon a discovery that primary and secondary data have become unsynchronized. Regions of storage that are unsynchronized can be identified quickly without the need to read the change log. In addition, data are copied efficiently, with minimal or no duplication of effort or data. Faster and more reliable storage can be allocated for storing regions of data that are “hot spots,” thereby making better use of existing storage resources and budgets.
