    • A method and apparatus for automatic gain control of a receiver provides compensation of gain control operations for received signal disruptions. In one embodiment, an automatic gain control circuit remembers control state information from a time just before a given disruption, and uses it to reset the automatic gain control circuit at the end of the disruption, or to maintain the automatic gain control circuit during the disruption. The remembering function may be triggered, such by detecting an impending disruption, or done periodically at a high enough update rate that the remembered information is always current with respect to any given disruption. Thus, an exemplary automatic gain control circuit may generate a receiver gain control signal by filtering received signal power measurements, and compensate the generation of that gain control signal by capturing filter state information just prior to signal disruptions. Compensation may comprise resetting or freezing the filter.

The system of the present invention discloses: scheduling the re-transmission of a data packet, based on decoding results from a receiver; determining a plurality of parameters for re-transmission in an adaptive manner; sending an assignment message if required; using a plurality of fields in the assignment message for re-transmission to indicate the plurality of parameters in the re-transmission; using a MACID field in the assignment message for re-transmission to indicate a target mobile station for the re-transmission; transmitting a data packet for the re-transmission; and decoding the data packet at the receiver to determine if a further need of re-transmission exists.

    • The invention is a CDMA spectral shaping technology that attenuates the out-of-band signal power in the CDMA signal. The in-band CDMA signal is attenuated near the corner frequencies to reduce components that provide a disproportionate contribution to the out-of-band signal power. The power amplifier in the CDMA base station can then operate at higher power levels without exceeding out-of-band signal power limitations. As a result, the power amplifier operates more efficiently and extends the range or capacity of the base station. In some examples of the invention, spectral shaping digital filters are placed between the cell site modem and the digital-to-analog converter in the base station. In other examples of the invention, spectral shaping analog filters are placed between the digital-to-analog converter and the low-pass filter in the base station.

    • A system and method for rate matching to enhance system throughput based on packet size is provided. A method for transmitting information includes encoding a block of N bits, where N is an integer, demultiplexing the encoded block of N bits into at least one subblock of systematic bits and at least one subblock of parity bits, and permuting the at least one subblock of systematic bits and the at least one subblock of parity bits to generate at least one permuted subblock. The method also includes forming at least one output block from the at least one permuted subblock, computing a starting position of a redundancy version for a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission based on a relationship between N and a threshold, and transmitting the redundancy version. The redundancy version begins at the computed starting position and ends when a specified number of bits has been transmitted.
