    • An inflatable seating pad (10) consists of a hand operated pump (12) integrated within the top surface to inflate the pad with air. The pad (10) has a shut-off connector (6) at one corner which locates and is connected to a pressure relief valve (8). In use, the pad (10) is inflated by pushing upon the hand operated pump (12) to over inflate the pad. The shut-off connector (6) maintains the pressure in the pad (10). To set the pressure to a desired pressure the user actuates the pressure relief valve (pre-set to optimum pressure) to operate the shut-off connector (6) to allow air to exhaust through the pressure relief valve.

    • A garment includes a compression system useful for stimulating venous and/or arterial blood flow in a limb, such as the foot or leg, by applying cyclic compressive pressures thereto. The garment has at least one inflatable bladder which is gradually inflated to slowly compress the foot substantially in the sole, the upper dorsi-medial areas, and dorsi-lateral areas of the foot, and then deflated to rapidly release the pressure. The muscle mass of the foot is thus squeezed and, upon sudden release, reactive hyperaemia is produced which increases arterial inflow, thus increasing venous flow in the foot and/or the leg thereof. The compression system may be used alone or in conjunction with a garment of similar structure, applied to other portions of the limb, such as the calf or thigh, for simultaneous or sequential stimulation of venous blood flow in the limb.

    • A rotary valve for controlling air supply in an inflatable device comprises a first rotor (11) and the second rotor (12) driven by motor (13) with a drive pulley (14) fixed directly onto its drive spindle (15). A toothed belt (16) driven by the drive pulley (14) engages with the toothed perimeter profile of the first rotor (11), to rotate rotors (11) and (12) relative to a stator (10). As the first and/or second rotor(s) are rotated, channels and ports on the airtight interfaces between the rotors (11, 12) and the stator (10) are connected and disconnected as required by the desired inflation sequence, including all the ports sealed in one position or all the ports exhausting to atmosphere in another position. The valve can be used in conjunction with any type of inflating device, where complex porting or air routing is required, the valve achieving this in a simpler manner.
