    • An aircraft thrust reverser mechanism comprises a thrust reverser moveable between a deployed position in which at least a portion of gas flowing through the aircraft engine is redirected in a non-rearward direction and a stowed position in which gas flowing through the engine is not redirected. A thrust reverser lock is provided to prevent inadvertent deployment of the thrust reverser. The thrust reverser lock comprises a locking element rotatable about a pivot between a closed position in which the locking element prevents deployment of the thrust reverser and an open position in which the locking element permits the thrust reverser to be deployed. A retractable blocking element prevents the locking element from moving to the second position unless the blocking element is first withdrawn. The locking element is shaped in such a way that if the thrust reverser moves toward a deployed position without the blocking element having first been withdrawn, the force produced by the contact between the thrust reverser and the locking element produces a torque that tends to move the lock into its closed position.

    • A controllable motor includes a rotor. A first stator winding set is operable, upon being energized, to generate and apply a first torque to the rotor. A second stator winding set independent of the first stator winding set is operable, upon being energized, to generate and apply a second torque to the rotor. A motor control is coupled to the first and second stator winding sets.     • A thrust reverser system includes one or more actuators each having an integrated locking mechanism that prevents unintended actuator movement, and thus unintended thrust reverser movement. Each of the actuators with the integrated locking mechanism includes a housing, a drive shaft, and a lock. The drive shaft includes an outer surface, is rotationally mounted within the housing, and is operable, in response to the operation of the one or more motors, to rotate in a first rotational direction, to thereby move the thrust reverser to the deploy position, and a second rotational direction, to thereby move the thrust reverser to the stow position. The lock is movably mounted within the housing and is operable to move between at least a first position and a second position, and includes at least a side surface and a bottom surface. One or more gears are provided on the outer surface of the drive shaft, each of which is adapted to mesh with gears that are operably coupled to the thrust reverser. In addition, one or more protrusions extend from the outer surface of the drive shaft. Each of the protrusions includes a stop surface configured to fixedly abut the lock side surface when the lock is in the first position, and a tapered surface configured to slidingly abut the lock bottom surface when the lock is in the first position. Thus, rotation of the drive shaft in the first rotational direction is prevented and rotation of the drive shaft in the second rotational direction is allowed when the lock is in the first position.
