    • An electric power-generating device with a rotor turned by an external source of energy, such as wind or water currents. The rotor is coupled to a main shaft. A pair of bull gears is located on the main shaft. A number of intermediate gears are located around a perimeter of the bull gears. An intermediate gear is connected to an input shaft having a double helix pinion that engages the pair of bull gears. The other intermediate gears are similarly connected to respective input shafts having double helix pimons that engage the pair of bull gears. A plurality of output shafts is provided. An output shaft has a single-helix output pinion that engages two adjacent intermediate gears. The other output shafts are similarly connected to respective adjacent intermediate gears. A number of rotational devices are connected to the output shafts.

    • A generator housed in a wind turbine nacelle includes a generator rotor that is mounted to gearbox output pinions, thereby eliminating the need for couplings. The generator frame is located directly on the gearbox and is located to control the air gap. To facilitate removal of the generator, tapers are used that have steep angles that exceed the friction coefficient of the materials used. To provide adequate support over its length, the shaft employs dual tapers, each short and precisely located conical surface of which provides exact location on the near and far sides of the shaft. The length of straight shaft between the dual locating tapers serves to support the generator during mounting and de-mounting. During installation, the tapers center the rotor and bullet pins center the frame (stator). When the system aligns the rotor and stator, retainer elements act as labyrinth seals designed to protect the generator interior from contamination.

A countering realignment equal and opposite to the misalignment caused by the overturning moment and other gear forces is created without adding components or wearing surfaces. On the pin elements, one or more different or varying cross sections with the principal axes of their sections non-vertically orientated utilize the tangential and radial forces to cause deflections in two planes to perfectly compensate for misalignment caused by helical gear forces, thus keeping the mesh aligned the same as when using spur gears and traditional flexpins.
