    • A circuit component has an elastically deformable first structure, a second structure, and a support structure coupling the first and second structures, wherein the support structure acts a fulcrum about which the first structure can be variably deformed in response to a variable force, to provide either a variable capacitor or a variable tank circuit having a variable capacitor and an inductor. In one particular embodiment, the circuit component includes a zipper actuator for elastically deforming the first structure. A method of making a circuit component includes forming an elastically deformable first structure, forming a second structure, and forming a support structure coupling the first and second structures, to provide either a variable capacitor or a variable tank circuit having a variable capacitor and an inductor.     • Harvesting energy from non-stationary, multi-frequency mechanical vibrations using a tunable electrical circuit. In an embodiment, an apparatus for converting vibrational energy to electrical energy includes a vibrational energy harvester having a transducer for generating time-varying electrical signals in response to environmental vibration; at least one power storage device; a switching network operably coupled between the transducer of the vibrational energy harvester and the at least one power storage device, wherein the switching network includes a plurality of switching elements each defining a switchable current path that is controlled by a control signal supplied to the respective switching element; and electronics configured to generate the control signals for supply to the switching elements of the switching network, the electronics including first circuitry, second circuitry, third circuitry, and fourth circuitry.

    • Procedures and devices are described for electric energy generation from electrochemical use of substances for powering downhole devices. According to some other embodiments procedures and devices are described for electric energy generation from nuclear decay for powering downhole devices. According to some embodiments, the types of devices being powered are untethered or otherwise cannot benefit from direct power transmission from the surface. Examples of devices include small devices in downhole environments. Other examples of devices are sensors and other hardware such as flow control valves installed during completion. According to one example permanent and/or semi-permanent monitoring sensors make use of the energy generation techniques described herein.

    • A food treat for an animal includes a pliable elongate shape formed from an ingredient mixture and having a length and a width, wherein the length is greater than the width. The elongate strip may be rolled along its length to provide a pliable rolled elongate animal food treat. Individual lengths of the rolled elongate shape may be unrolled and detached from the pliable rolled elongate animal food treat. A method of preparing a food treat for an animal also is disclosed including, for example, the step of combining a plurality of ingredients to form an ingredient mixture, the step of processing at least a portion of the ingredient mixture into a pliable flat shape, and the step of forming the flat shape into at least one pliable roll. A method of providing a food treat to an animal is further disclosed, wherein the method includes, for example, the step of unrolling a length of a pliable elongate rolled animal food treat, the step of detaching the length from the pliable elongate rolled animal food treat, and the step of providing the length to the animal.
