    • A modular differential pressure measuring system for a boiling water nuclear reactor pressure vessel is described. The modular pressure differential system includes a plurality of pressure lines having a plurality of pressure line sections. The system also includes a shroud having at least one replaceable shroud section. Each shroud section includes at least one pressure line section which is configured to connect to and disconnect from corresponding pressure line sections in adjacent shroud sections without welding. Additionally, the system includes a reactor bottom head petal section having a shroud support flange and a plurality of bores defining pressure line sections wherein at least one pressure line section of said bottom head petal is configured to couple with a corresponding pressure line section of an adjacent shroud section. The modular pressure system does not require cutting of the pressure lines or pressure line supports for replacement of the replaceable shroud sections. Additionally, the modular differential pressure system does not require welding of pressure lines and/or pressure line supports during installation of a replaceable shroud section.

    • A shroud attachment assembly which provides both structural support for the shroud and a seal between the shroud and shroud support is described. In one specific embodiment, the shroud attachment assembly includes a shroud flange formed integral with the shroud, and a pump deck flange formed integral with the pump deck. The shroud flange extends over the pump deck flange, and a plurality of studs extend through aligned openings in the flanges. In addition, a plurality of wedges are secured to the shroud flange by studs, and the wedges extend between the shroud flange and the pump deck flange. Generally, the studs which extend through aligned openings in the shroud and pump deck flanges transfer vertical loads from the shroud to the pump deck, and the wedges transfer horizontal loads from the shroud to the pump deck.

Each pressure tap bore is aligned with an area in the RIP containing a corresponding lateral bore.

In one embodiment, the top guide assembly includes a hanger for being secured in a groove formed in an inner surface of the shroud, and the hanger includes a ledge having a plurality of openings therein. The top guide rests on an upper surface of the ledge. The assembly also includes wedges for being positioned in pockets formed in the top guide and tightly fit between the hanger and the top guide, and threaded studs for extend through respective aligned bores in the wedges and openings in the ledge. A nut and a keeper are engaged to one end of each stud to retain the wedge between the hanger and the top guide grid.

    • A restraint assembly which is a bolted lattice structure for preventing the in-core guide tubes from experiencing excessive flow induced vibrations is described. In one embodiment, the restraint assembly includes upper and lower restraint brackets secured to an in-core housing and in-core guide tube assembly. The restraint brackets are located approximately equal distance from the end supports of the in-core guide tube and in-core housing assembly. The upper restraint bracket is welded between sections of the in-core guide tube, and the lower restraint bracket is welded between the in-core guide tube and the in-core housing. Each bracket includes four flanges, and each flange has tapped, or threaded, openings therein. Each bracket also includes cylindrical sections extending from the flanges, and in one embodiment, the cylindrical sections have inner and outer diameters which match the inner and outer diameters of the in-core housing and the in-core guide tube. The brackets are interconnected by plates and threaded bolts. More specifically, the brackets of each ICGT and ICH assembly are connected to brackets of adjacent assemblies by plates and bolts. The bolts are sized and torqued to ensure that a sufficient preload is maintained to prevent any slippage. The bolt heads are tack welded to the restraint plates after final assembly. The assembly also includes a shroud attachment plate and a restraint support bracket configured to be welded to a shroud.

    • A shroud including an integral track for mounting inspection and cleaning tooling is described. In one embodiment, the shroud includes substantially cylindrical first and second shroud sections having a main body with a first end and a second end. One shroud first end has a weld prepared surface. Each shroud section includes a ledge in an exterior surface adjacent the first end. A weld is formed between the weld prepared surface and the first end of the second shroud section. At the weld, the shroud is substantially geometrically balanced with equal material on both sides of the weld. A geometrically balanced weld provides the same heat sink characteristics on both sides of the weld, and allows for a more uniform distribution of weld residual stresses.

    • A forged core plate fabricated from a single piece stainless steel forging is described. The plate has a substantially circular shape and penetrations are provided in the core plate to allow passage of control rod blades into the core and direct recirculation flow past the fuel assemblies. The penetrations are formed from machining "5 holes" per penetration. Particularly, each penetration includes a center through hole to allow passage of the control rod blade and control rod blade guide tube. The through hole has a smaller diameter at the plate top surface to provide a tighter fit to the outside diameter of the guide tube to maintain alignment and minimize flow leakage. The through hole is enlarged at the core plate bottom surface to allow clearance in order to improve the installation and removal of the guide tube. Each penetration also include four peripheral blind holes to direct the recirculation flow into the flow holes located on the sides of the guide tube. The blind holes do not extend completely through the plate. When the guide tube is installed in the core plate, the flow holes in the side of the guide tube is located approximately 1/3 of the way down from the plate top surface.
