    • An offshore terminal mooring buoy of the cantenary anchor leg mooring (CALM) type includes a buoy which is designed to dive at an angle downwardly through large swells during bad weather. The buoy has a wedge shaped side cross-section including an inwardly angled upper sidewall that not only causes the buoy to dive through large swells, but also reduces its drag coefficient so that undue stresses will not be placed on the buoy's anchor chains as it dives through the water. The bottom submerged portion of the buoy can also incorporate a wedged shape to decrease its drag coefficient further. Preferably, the buoy also has a hexagonal shaped top cross-section which further reduces the buoy's drag coefficient, and makes the buoy easy to fabricate.

    • A solid state electrochemical cell comprises an anode having lithium as its active material, a polymeric electrolyte, and a cathode comprising a composite of an insertion electrode material or similarly active material and a polymeric material.One of the electrolyte and the cathode possesses an ionically conducting phase at ambient temperature and the other of the electrolyte and the cathode lacks such a phase. Ionic conductivity can be induced in said other of the electrolyte and cathode at elevated temperature thereby to render the cell operable and give rise to improvements in comparison with cells where such phases are present ab initio.

    • A mooring system for a vessel and a method of mooring a vessel are provided. The mooring system comprises a turret structure; a swivel unit mounted on the turret structure; a bearing assembly for rotatably mounting the turret structure at deck level of the vessel such that the turret structure extends into a moonpool of the vessel and such that the swivel unit is disposed above deck level; a plurality of conduits for fluid communication disposed in the turret structure; a buoy structure retrievable into the moonpool of the vessel and connectable to the turret structure; a locking assembly for mechanically locking the buoy structure to the turret structure; and wherein the turret structure is rotatable as one to align the conduits to corresponding riser valve structures on the buoy structure prior to mechanically locking the buoy structure to the turret structure.

    • A unitary polymer electrolyte/polymer-based cathode film component for use in a solid state electrochemical cell is manufactured by solution casting onto one of the electrolyte or cathode, a solution of the other of the electrolyte or cathode.The solution is prepared at elevated temperature (e.g. 40.degree.-50.degree. C.) and cooled to a lower temperature, e.g. ambient, before carrying out the casting. The solvent (e.g. methanol) is such that the polymer (e.g. poly (ethylene oxide)) is only sparingly soluble therein at the lower temperature and relatively readily soluble therein at the elevated temperature. Also, immediate precipitation of the polymer does not occur on cooling the solution from the elevated temperature to the lower temperature. In this way, dissolution of said one of the electrolyte or cathode is avoided.
