    • A rotary vane type evaporator has a cylindrical vessel and a rotor rotatable therein. The rotor has vane supports fixed to a rotor shaft and vanes each pivotally mounted at the radially inner end to a vane support and having a radially outer end connected with a shoe extending in the circumferential direction of the vessel. Each vane is provided with a balance weight acting to keep constant, irrespective of the wear of the shoe, the pressing force which urges the shoe against the vessel inner peripheral surface. The rotor vanes are disposed in a plurality of stages arranged in axial direction of the rotor. The rotor is so constructed as to uniformalize the wear of the vane shoes over all the stages, whereby the frequency of the interruption of the evaporator operation for the renewal of vanes is lowered to improve the rate of the operation of the evaporator.

    • An aqueous solution containing granular ion exchange resin and filter aid as a radioactive waste generated from a nuclear power plant is supplied to the casing of a centrifugal film dryer, which comprises a casing, a rotating shaft inserted in the casing, rotating blades fixed to the rotating shaft within the casing, and a heating means for heating the wall surface of the casing. The aqueous solution flows down along the heated inside wall of the casing while the rotating shaft is rotated. Water of the aqueous solution is evaporated, while the granular ion exchange resin and the filter aid are turned into powder by the action of rotating blades in rotation. The powder is led to a pelletizer, and shaped into pellets. The pellets are filled in a drum, and asphalt is then filled in the drum. After the solidification of the asphalt, the drum is tightly sealed.

    • An electronic control system for an automatic transmission has an electronic control unit including a CPU and a memory. The control program is programmed based on an object-oriented programming. An object such as a domain control unit or individual control parts are provided for driving a corresponding linear solenoid valve. A shift request output unit determines types of required shift and outputs a shift request message including the shift type. The domain control unit determines a method to be executed in response to the shift type ID. Preferably, the shift request output unit further determines whether the shift is a single shift or a multiple shift and whether the shift is a normal shift or a special shift. These determination results are also included in the shift request message, so that the domain control unit varies the method to control the linear solenoid valves. The control program can be revised in a simple manner by revising only the domain control unit and individual control parts corresponding to the linear solenoid valve having the changed specification.

    • A serial printer includes a printing unit for carrying a print head, a DC power unit for generating a DC drive voltage to drive a carriage motor of the printing unit, and a control unit for performing an initializing operation. In this initializing operation, the print head is moved in reciprocal directions when the initialization request signal from the host apparatus is received by the printer, but only after the elapse of a waiting time corresponding to an attenuating period of the DC voltage. This control sequence avoids the performance of an initializing operation by the printer when the initialization request signal has been issued by the host apparatus as the DC voltage is attenuating, such as when power is being shut off, so that the printer would remain engaged for an insufficient time to complete the initializing operation.
