    • A bypass server is placed in an outgoing link between a mobile device server and a relay used to distribute data from the mobile device server to remote mobile devices to which the data is addressed. Where a direct connection is established between a suitably configured network node (such as a personal computer) and a given mobile device, the bypass server may form a local connection with the network node and divert along the local connection those packets that are addressed to the given mobile device. As such, a lower cost/higher bandwidth local communication path between the given mobile device and the mobile device server may be established, when compared to the conventional remote communication path. The local communication path may be especially useful for bulk data transfers.

    • A system for assigning a network address to a wireless device includes a network server, a virtual device manager, and an address resolution (AR) module. In one embodiment, the system is operable to push information from an information source within a computer network to the wireless device. In this embodiment, the network server is coupled to the computer network, and is operable to receive a network identification for the wireless device from the information source and return a network address associated with the wireless device to the information source. The virtual device manager is also coupled to the computer network, and may be accessed on the computer network using any of a plurality of network addresses, including the network address associated with the wireless device. The AR module is coupled to the virtual device manager, and is operable to receive the network address associated with the wireless device and determine an identification of the wireless device within a wireless network. In operation, the virtual device manager receives information from the information source that is transmitted from the information source to the virtual device manager using the network address associated with the wireless device, and accesses the AR module to determine the identification of the wireless device within the wireless network. The information is then transmitted to the wireless device via the wireless network using the identification of the wireless device within the wireless network.

    • A method for automatically configuring an access control point based upon the network resource requirements of an application. The installation of a new application on a mobile device or other user device is accompanied, before, during, or after installation, with the distribution of access control information. An access control point blocks communications based upon access rules. An access update module modifies or sets the access rules based upon the access control information. The access control point and the access update module may be located within the mobile device, within an associated wireless connector system, or in other locations within the mobile communication system. The setting or resetting of the access rules based upon the access control information may be triggered during installation, modification, or removal of the application.
