    • A downwardly open receptacle for coloring fluid, overlying an apertured masking screen, is provided at its bottom with a pair of elastic sealing strips sloping downwardly and terminating in confronting upturned edges bounding a discharge slot. The sealing strips are weighted down by two parallel rods of magnetizable material which are cradled in troughs formed by the upturned strip edges and are resiliently engaged from above by a pair of retaining blades, thereby holding the lowest parts of the strips in firm contact with the masking screen against a carpet or other underlying substrate to be colored.

    • A downwardly open ink receptacle, surrounded by a cylindrical masking screen, has a downwardly convex bottom member of elastic material forming a discharge slot for the ink, this slot being spanned by one or more substantially inextensible reinforcing elements leaving clearances in line with the slot in order to give passage to the ink. The slot may be bounded by a pair of low-friction strips bearing directly upon the inner screen surface under pressure of a pair of weighting bars flanking the slot. The reinforcement can be a perforated foil, an insert with an undulating wire, or a series of axially spaced bolts.

    • A device and process to improve the penetration of a permeable flat shaped material by a liquid compound. A printing or dyeing compound or a penetrating agent is put into vibration relative to the permeable flat shaped material. The acceleration maximum of the vibration motion amounts to at least tenfold the acceleration due to the earth''s gravity. The alternating field of inertial forces caused by the vibrations and acting on the particles of the printing or dyeing compound to be applied or the penetrating agent or the material has superimposed thereon a static field of forces directed essentially normally to the surface of the permeable flat shaped article. The static field of forces is a static field due to gravity, or an applied static field such as an electrostatic field, or a magnetostatic field. The frequency of vibrations may amount to about 100 hertzian units. The permeable flat shaped material may be treated with ultrasonics. The apparatus may have at least one swing table over which the permeable flat shaped material passes and which is provided with suction channels to secure the permeable flat shaped material or a conveyor belt supporting the flat shaped material. The printing or dyeing compound may be vibrated by a pressure chamber arranged underneath the sheet material containing a gaseous or liquid medium, the internal pressure of the pressure chamber being subjected to periodic fluctuations.

    • A squeegee device with a roller squeegee for applying a fluid through a perforated screen onto a material includes a guide wall or guide wall member positioned adjacent the periphery of the roller squeegee and extends to the region where the fluid is applied to the material to be worked. The guide wall has a concave face facing the roller squeegee with a gap formed therebetween. The gap is filled with the liquid or viscous compound so that the hydrodynamic pressure of the liquid in the gap is increased. The guide wall may also be formed as part of the limitation wall of a squeegee box, into which the roller squeegee is pivotally mounted. The roller squeegee is spaced from the screen and rotates at a speed much greater than the speed of movement of the screen.
