    • A unitary projectile for an immobilization weapon and tethered by two electrical wires, has a plurality of electrical contacts including several contacts dispersed in a spaced pattern around the projectile after target impact. The pattern of several contacts substantially increases the probability that if the projectile hits the target, an immobilization circuit through the target will be completed. The deployment of the contacts occurs as a result of the sudden deceleration of the projectile when it impacts the target. This simplifies the deployment as well as the projectile configuration and likely reduces the risk of misactivation or an ill-timed activation of the second contacts. In a preferred version of the disclosed embodiments, there are preferably four contacts dispersed in a symmetrical arrangement around the projectile. The immobilization voltage in preferably applied to one pair of opposed contacts and then to the other in an oscillating fashion in order to increase the likelihood of disabling effect.

    • This disclosure depicts method and apparatus useful in fabricating a screen of a color cathode ray tube of the slot mask, stripe-screen type and more particularly method and apparatus for exposing a photosensitive coating on the concave inner surface of the faceplate of such a tube through a slot mask serving as an exposure master. Latent screen stripe images are formed whose width increases with increasing radial distance along the screen "pitch" axis perpendicular to the screen stripe images. The method comprises supporting a curved faceplate which has on its concave inner surface a photosensitive coating; supporting adjacent the faceplate inner surface a slot mask defining an array of columns of spaced slots; supporting a line source of radiation actinic to said coating on or near a central axis of the faceplate and spaced from said coating, with the source axis aligned parallel to said columns of spaced slots in said mask, said light source producing a linear light-emitting volume having a major cross-sectional axis which is parallel to the faceplate central axis and a major axis dimension which is substantially greater than the minor cross-sectional axis dimension of said light-emitting volume; and exposing said coating to said light source, such that the latent screen stripe images formed on said coating through said slots, for uniform exposure time and slot width, increase in width in a radial direction away from said screen center along said screen pitch axis.

    • This disclosure depicts method and apparatus for screening slot-mask, stripe screen type color cathode ray tubes particularly method and apparatus for improving screen stripe uniformity and edge definition. The method involves supporting a curved, approximately rectangular faceplate which has on its concave inner surface a photosensitive coating and which has supported adjacent its inner surface an exposure mask defining an array of columns of spaced slots oriented parallel to the minor axis of the faceplate. A line source of radiation actinic to said coating is supported on or near a central axis of the faceplate. The disclosed method includes producing a virtual image of the line source which appears, when viewed from off-axis points on the faceplate, to be rotated in a direction effective to decrease an unwanted rotational displacement of the mask slot images induced by the relative geometry of the line source, the mask slots and the faceplate inner surface. Stripe width uniformity and edge definition is thus improved. Preferred apparatus for implementing the disclosed method includes a negative meniscus lens.

    • An assembly for use in propelling electrode darts toward a distant target is deployed in an electrical discharge weapon. The assembly comprises a cartridge having a u-shaped channel terminating in apertures through which wire-tethered darts are propelled. Propulsion is achieved relatively efficiently using the sudden release of compressed gas from a sealed storage tank in response to penetration by a conical penetrator forced by an electrically-induced ignition of a pyrotechnic material to accelerate toward and penetrate the tank at an axial surface. The conical shape of the penetrator and the axial penetration of the tank produces a precisely symmetric rush of gas into a relatively confined volume including the dart channel to propel the darts toward the target in an efficient manner. Paper stickers may cover the dart exit apertures to permit initial pressure buildup before the darts penetrate the stickers as they are propelled toward the target.
