    • An ink identification and detection system includes an imaging apparatus. An ink tank is mounted to the imaging apparatus. The ink tank has a transparent portion. An ink is contained in the ink tank. The ink includes a fluorescing material. An ink detection device is communicatively coupled to a controller. The ink detection device is configured to emit light in a non-visible spectrum of light through the transparent portion to the ink, and is configured to detect light in a visible or near-infrared spectrum of light emitted through the transparent portion by the fluorescing material in the ink. The ink detection device supplies a signal representing the detected light to the controller for identifying the ink.

    • The present invention relates to a unique polymer dispersant mixture to be incorporated into a carbon black ink formulation. More particularly, the a polymeric dispersant mixture consists of a first polymer dispersant having moieties of methacrylic acid; poly(propylene glycol)-4-nonylphenyl ether acrylate; and poly(ethylene glycol)2,4,6-tris-(1-phenylethyl)phenyl ether methacrylate in combination with a second polymer dispersant selected from the group consisting of a copolymer of methacrylic acid and benzyl methacrylate and a terpolymer of styrene, alpha-methyl styrene and acrylic acid. Carbon black inkjet inks having this particular polymer dispersant mixture exhibit improved text quality when compared to carbon black inks not having this polymer dispersant mixture.

    • A system for identifying a particular inkjet ink includes an ink delivery tubing interconnecting an ink cartridge and a printhead, a quantity of ink dispensing from the ink cartridge to the printhead by flowing through the ink delivery tubing, a light emitter configured and positioned to transmit light in a first preselected wavelength bandwidth onto the ink delivery tubing and the ink flowing therethrough, a photo sensor configured and positioned to detect light in a different second preselected wavelength bandwidth that is emitted by a fluorescent additive contained in the dispensed ink, and a signal analyzer electrically connected to the photo sensor and operable to produce an electrical output signal corresponding to such light emissions such that an electrical output signal above a given level is indicative of the presence of the particular ink in the ink cartridge.
