    • A rotary valve for fluid flow control is provided having curved sealing surfaces, at least one of which has a cross-sectional arc segment forming a portion of an involute, for a valve closure member and a fluid port valve seat or seating surface. By machining the sealing surfaces of the valve closure member and of the valve seat to the form of an involute, these surfaces will engage substantially simultaneously over the entire perimeter of the valve seat at initial closing contact and closed or sealed positions. After initial contact and during overclosure, if elastomeric surfaces are used, the compression and sealing of resilient seating material will be uniform over the entire engaging surface, and around the periphery of the valve seat.

    • An improved scotch yoke has a means for absorbing sideward thrust. It includes a rod extending in a first direction through a hole in the yoke housing. A yoke arm in the housing is pivotable about an axis and extends in a second direction that intersects the first direction. Projection means, preferably on a member on the rod, extend through a slot in the yoke arm to link the rod with a means for absorbing sideward thrust to minimize bowing and twisting in the yoke arm and the rod. Movement of the rod slides the member in the first direction and pivots the yoke arm about the axis.

    • A freezeless wall hydrant for delivery of hot or cold water from a single discharge conduit has first and second fluid inlet pipes in parallel spaced relation. The pipes have forward and rearward ends and are connected respectively to sources of hot and cold pressurized water. A laterally extending fluid conduit member connects the forward ends of the first and second fluid inlet pipes and is in communication therewith. A fluid closure valve is located in the rearward ends of each of the first and second fluid pipes. A check valve is in each of the pipes forwardly of the fluid closure valves and is capable of permitting fluid flow in the pipes in a direction from the closure valve, but prevents fluid flow towards the closure valves. A valve rod having forward and rearward ends rotatably extends through the laterally extending fluid conduit and through the forward ends of the first and second inlet pipes and has one end operatively connected to the check valves in the rearward ends of the fluid inlet pipes. A handle is located on a protruding forward end of the valve rods to permit the manual movement of the rods to open or close the fluid closure valves. A fluid exit conduit has a rearward end in communication with the laterally extending fluid conduit and extends forwardly and downwardly and terminates in a hose threaded portion. A check valve is located in the fluid exit conduit to prevent fluid flow therein only towards the forward end of the fluid exit conduit.

    • A wall mounted water hydrant has an elongated hollow housing with water inlet and outlet ends, and a center axis; an inlet valve in the housing adjacent to the inlet end, including a valve seat and a valve body; a water outlet port in the housing adjacent to its outlet end; a valve operating rod in the housing with an inner end secured to the valve body and extending along the center axis to the outlet end of said housing, terminating in an outer end; a handle attached to the rod outer end, which when rotated in one direction closes the valve body against the valve seat, and in the other opposite direction moves the valve body away from the seat, thus allowing pressurized water from the inlet to flow downstream through the housing and outlet port; and a backflow preventor secured to the valve downstream from its seat. The elastomeric backflow preventor has a bell shape comprising a cylindrical body smaller than the interior of the housing and thin flexible side walls extending from the body outwardly and downstream to end in a lip portion which normally engages the interior walls of the housing. The backflow preventor has an open inner end with an inwardly extending shoulder which frictionally fits into an annular groove of the valve body. The inner end of the preventor abuts an annular shoulder on the valve body and is held thereagainst by a locking band.
