    • The invention relates to a humidity sensor for capacitive measurement of the humidity contained in a material, predominantly a bulk product. For parallel operation of several humidity sensors, one individual humidity sensor has to fulfil particularly high requirements with regard to accuracy, sensitivity and interchangeability. These requirements are fulfilled by the humidity sensor as per the invention firstly in that at least one pole of a stray field condenser arranged in the humidity sensor is fitted as a conductive layer on the side of a closer plate in the casing of the humidity sensor which is turned away from the material or bulk product. Furthermore, there is arranged in the casing a digital arithmetic-logic unit which exhibits a calibration table stored in a digital memory for determination of humidity levels as a function of measurement signals in a capacity measurement circuit which measures the capacity of the stray field condenser and of interference values affecting the humidity sensor. A further increase in precision, finally, is achieved in that the capacity measurement circuit exhibits an amplitude stabilizer such that the voltage on the stray field condenser is constant over time.

    • A controlled lathe having a rotatable main spindle with a hollow interior and a plurality of radially adjustable guide bodies for guiding a rod having a portion located within the hollow interior of the main spindle. Each guide body rests on a support body and is adjustable with respect to the support body by an axially movable inner tube located within the hollow interior of the main spindle. Axial movement of the inner tube to adjust the guide bodies is effected by an adjusting member which is mounted on the end of the inner tube and which is rotatable with the main spindle during normal lathe operation. The adjusting member is threadedly connected to a member which is attached to the main spindle, and a holding device secures the adjusting member against rotation when the guide bodies are to be adjusted which causes axial movement of the adjusting member and the inner tube due to the threaded connection. The axial position of the inner tube and the radial position of the guide bodies is varied by controlled rotation of the main spindle while the adjusting member is secured against rotation.

    • An improvement in the process for the polymerization of vinyl halide polymers comprising polymerizing at least one vinyl halide and, optionally, other olefinically-unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with vinyl halides, in an aqueous dispersion in the presence of free-radical-forming polymerization initiators, dispersants and, optionally, other additives in the presence of an inhibitor of polymer deposits and recovering said vinyl halide polymers, the improvement consisting essentially of adding to the reaction mixture from 10 to 1,000 ppm, based on the monomers, of at least one carbonyl compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a hydrocarbon having from 1 to 9 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl; R.sup.2 represents an oxyhydrocarbon having from 1 to 9 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkoxy, aryloxy, alkaryloxy and aralkoxy, and a hydrocarbon having from 1 to 9 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl; X is selected from the group consisting of hydroxy and R.sup.3 --CO--, wherein R.sup.3 represents a hydrocarbon having from 1 to 9 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl; as said inhibitor of polymer deposits.
