    • A method of pumping upper production fluid from an upper level of an underground pool of production fluid and pumping lower production fluid having a higher concentration of sand from a lower level during a single pump cycle comprises providing a dual action reciprocating piston pump comprising a pump barrel and a reciprocating piston dividing the pump barrel into a lower and upper chambers. On a downstroke upper production fluid is drawn from the upper level into the upper chamber through an upper intake, and lower production fluid present in the lower chamber is forced up a tube toward ground surface. On an upstroke lower production fluid is drawn from the lower level into the lower chamber through a lower intake, and upper production fluid in the upper chamber is forced up the tube toward ground surface. A valve for such a pump is also provided.

    • A tool for testing a tubular has a shaft with a fluid passageway connecting a first port and one or more second ports. A sealing element seals against the tubular member. The shaft moves relative to the sealing sleeve between an open position in which the first port is in fluid communication with the second port and a closed position in which the sealing sleeve closes the first port. An anchor secures the sealing sleeve relative to the tubular member to permit the shaft to move from the open position to the closed position.

    • A specific gravity valve, has a floating valve member with a specific gravity that is less than the specific gravity of a first liquid and greater than the specific gravity of a second, heavier liquid. A valve seat is associated with the floating valve member. A valve member retainer retains the floating valve member and permits limited vertical movement of the floating valve member between an open position away from the valve seat and a closed position engaged with the valve seat, such that in the open position, fluid flow through the respective outlet is permitted, and in the closed position, fluid flow through the respective outlet is prevented. The specific gravity valve may be used with a production tank to prevent an unintended draw off of the wrong fluid component in the tank.

    • A production tank with a tank body has an oil outlet and a water outlet in combination with specific gravity valves. A specific gravity valve is mounted to each outlet. Each specific gravity valve has a floating valve member, a valve seat associated with the valve member and a valve member retainer. The valve member retainer retains the valve member and permits limited vertical movement of the valve member between an open position, away from the valve seat, and a closed position where the valve member directly engages with the valve seat. In the open position, fluid may flow through the outlets and, in the closed position, fluid flow through the outlets is prevented. On the oil outlet, the valve member retainer retains the valve member above the fluid outlet and, on the water outlet, the valve member retainer retains the valve member below the fluid outlet.
