摘要： In a high-pressure discharge lamp that includes a bulb formed from a light emitting part having a discharge space therein and a pair of sealing parts connected to the light emitting part, and an electrode pair disposed within the discharge space, a section of a proximity conductor is wound substantially spirally around one of the sealing parts within a predetermined range from the light emitting part, while the remaining section of the proximity conductor crosses over the light emitting part and is electrically connected to the electrode nearer the other sealing part. By initiating a discharge after applying a high-frequency voltage of 1 kHz to 1 MHz to a high-pressure mercury lamp having this structure, the breakdown voltage can be suppressed to at least 8 kV.

摘要： A glass pipe 80 for a discharge lamp is prepared which includes a luminous bulb portion 1′ that will be formed into a luminous bulb of a high pressure discharge lamp and a side tube portion 2′. Subsequently, a glass member 70 made of a second glass having a softening point lower than that of a first glass constituting the side tube portion 2′ is inserted into the side tube portion 2′, after which a getter 75 is disposed in the side tube portion 2′. Then, with the pressure inside the glass pipe 80 reduced, the side tube portion 2′ is heated to tightly attach the glass member 70 to the side tube portion 2′, thereby forming a sealing portion.

摘要： A high pressure discharge lamp with a trigger wire wound around a side tube portion has the structure in which the side tube portion has a first glass portion extending from a luminous bulb and a second glass portion provided in at least a portion of the inside of the first glass portion, and in which the second glass portion contains at least one substance of Li, Na, and K of from 0.001 wt % to 1.0 wt % inclusive. This structure provides a high pressure discharge lamp operable with a drastically reduced starting voltage.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a lighting method and the like that can prevent a lamp temperature of each individual high-pressure mercury lamp from being beyond a proper temperature range of a halogen cycle. The lighting method maintains a discharge of the high-pressure mercury lamp that has a function of the halogen cycle. The control is performed as follows. From when the high-pressure mercury lamp is lighted up to when a lamp voltage Vla reaches a first voltage value V1, a constant current control is performed. When the lamp voltage Vla reaches the first voltage value V1, the constant current control is switched to a constant power control which is performed at a first power value W1. While the discharge of the lamp is maintained, when the lamp voltage Vla reaches a voltage value (second voltage value V2) at which a state of the halogen cycle deviates from a proper state, the constant power control is performed by reducing the first power value W1 to a second power value W2.
