    • A system and method for accommodating a rapid transition between heterogeneous radio access technologies is provided. A local network 105 having a controller 114 and a plurality of access points 106,107,108,109,110,111 receives information 117 from a communication device 101 relating to the network 116 it is exiting. During the transition process from a first network 116, for example a cellular wide area network, to a second network 105, for example an IMS-WLAN, the communication device 101 passes its wide area network servicing base station information 117 to an access point 106 of the local network 105. Upon exiting the local network 105, wide area network servicing base station information 121 is delivered to an exiting communication device 112, thereby enabling it to abbreviate or eliminate traditional scanning and acquisition processes that occur in network handoff exchanges.

    • Disclosed are devices and methods of stylus devices that when in contact with a capacitive touchscreen and a grounding element, can vary the signal level detected on a capacitive touchscreen to create a more realistic writing experience. Disclosed are elements of a touchscreen stylus, which individually or in combination, can enable a touchscreen stylus to have at least one electrical characteristic that is variable. In this way the resistive link between the touchscreen and a grounding element can be varied to enable features such as a capability to vary the width of line being drawn, to vary a region of influence on the touchscreen and/or to vary a temperament of action. The elements of a disclosed stylus can include at least one mechanical feature to provide at least one electrical characteristic that is variable and/or at least one material in an arrangement to provide at least one electrical characteristic that is variable.

    • A method and apparatus for power conservation is provided for a multi-mode wireless communication device (100) capable of operating in a plurality of networks, each of the plurality of networks having a network signal with predetermined spectral characteristics. The wireless communication device (100) includes a variable bandwidth signal detector (140), a threshold detector (145), and a controller (120). The variable bandwidth signal detector (140) receives radio frequency (RF) signals and defines a detection bandwidth for signal detection. The threshold detector (145) is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) and detects a network signal within the RF signals in response to determining whether a signal is present within the detection bandwidth having a signal strength greater than a predetermined signal strength. The controller (120) is coupled to the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) and the threshold detector (145) and offsets a center of the detection bandwidth of the variable bandwidth signal detector (140) in response to the predetermined spectral characteristics of the network signal.
