    • An electronic ballast arrangement for a discharge lamp is provided. The electronic ballast arrangement includes an electronic ballast for a discharge lamp with a control application specific integrated circuit, the control application specific integrated circuit having a control input, which is characterized by the fact that the potential present across it sets the operating frequency of the control ASIC when driving the discharge lamp; and a switch; wherein the electronic ballast is connected to the switch, with different switching positions of the switch determining different potentials which are present at the control input, in order to thus set the operating frequency of the control application specific integrated circuit via the switch.

    • Operating at least one LED on a circuit assembly having an input with first (E1) and second input terminals for coupling to an alternating supply voltage modified by a phase dimmer (12) for setting a dimming angle. Rectifier (14) has an input and an output, with its input being coupled to the circuit assembly's input. Signal (UC1) at the rectifier output is compared with a comparison value. PWM signal (S0) has a first frequency and the dimming angle is correlated with its pulse width. PWM signal having the first frequency (f1) is converted into a PWM signal (S3) that has a second frequency, and the dimming angle is correlated with its pulse width. Controllable current source (22), which is coupled on the input side to the rectifier output, is controlled with PWM signal (S3), with the at least one LED being coupled to the output of the controllable current source.

    • A method for actuating a discharge lamp (LP), wherein in order to ignite the lamp a resonant circuit (L, C1) is brought into resonance or near resonance by the action of alternating current and as a result adjustment to give a predetermined amperage is performed by varying the frequency of the alternating current. For this purpose a measuring device transmits measured values of the amperage to means for controlling the frequency, and these means establish the frequency in dependence on the measured values. Before the ignition voltage is applied the electrodes of the lamp are pre-heated by the action on the resonant circuit of alternating current of a different frequency than when the lamp is ignited. During pre-heating a predetermined amperage is set by adjustment in that the means for controlling the frequency are already activated and the procedure is such that the measuring device obtains measured values of the amperage and transmits them to the means for controlling, these measurement values corresponding to an amperage which deviates in a predetermined manner from the amperage specified by measured values during ignition.
