    • A radio telephone system is arranged by a communication network, a cordless telephone, and a plurality of public radio base stations, which are connected to the communication network, a portable terminal of this cordless telephone is communicatable with not only a radio base station of this cordless telephone, but also the plural public radio base stations. The portable terminal searches for an ID code of a relevant radio base station contained in the received radio signal, and determines whether or not the received radio signal corresponds to a radio signal transmitted from the cordless telephone to which this portable terminal belongs. The the ID code is searched for when a power supply is turned ON and a telephone call is made. The portable terminal sets a radio channel between the radio base station for the cordless telephone to which this portable terminal belongs and this portable terminal when the ID code of the radio base station for this cordless telephone is detected. Thus, when a telephone call is made, a telephone communication can be made by the portable terminal via the radio base station of this cordless telephone, resulting in a low-cost telephone communication.

    • In a first PHS terminal, a system calling code for identifying a system in which the first PHS terminal is registered and a slave ID number for discriminating the first PHS terminal are stored in advance in an ID chip. While a user is out, he or she sets the ID chip in a second PHS terminal which does not have the same system calling code as that of the first PHS terminal. When the user performs an operation for peer-to-peer communication on the first PHS terminal, the second PHS terminal is called using a controlling physical slot. The second PHS terminal is informed that it is called by discriminating a system calling code and a PS calling number of the physical slot on the basis of the system calling code of the ID chip, and then transmits a response signal to the first PHS terminal based on the system calling code and PS calling number of the ID chip. Thus, peer-to-peer communication can be performed even between radio communication terminals which do not have the same system calling code.

    • In a portable telephone apparatus equipped with an electronic notebook function, a telephone operation key such as a dialing key is mounted on an upper surface of an openable/closable member mounted on an upper surface of a case body, whereas electronic notebook operation keys such as a character input key are provided at a region of a surface of the case body covered by the openable/closable member, and also at a rear surface of the openable/closable member. The portable telephone apparatus further includes a switch for detecting an opening/closing state of the openable/closable member, and a mode selecting unit for selecting a telephone mode and an electronic notebook mode in response to a detection signal derived from the detecting signal. Furthermore, a search key for searching storage data about the electronic notebook is employed on this upper surface of the openable/closable member. When this search key is operated, electronic notebook data such as telephone directory data constructed of one pair of a telephone number and a name, may be displayed on a display unit.

    • A frequency tuning method and apparatus for a broadcast receiver adapted to receive standard and offset broadcast channel frequencies. Each standard channel frequency is stored in a memory as representative data. Also stored are offset frequencies which are generated as a result of the receiver tuner searching for a channel and finding an offset channel. When a channel is selected, if there is an offset stored, the standard frequency plus the offset is applied to the tuning circuitry. If no offset is stored or if no signal is received strongly when the latter operation is performed, the tuner is tuned to the standard channel frequency. If no corresponding frequency is received strongly enough or if one is received but the system is not adequately tuned to it, the system alters its tuning frequency in discrete steps until it is tuned to a received channel frequency. The difference between the standard frequency and the tuned frequency is then stored as an offset frequency.
