    • A circular surface of a magnet is magnetized to an N-pole, and a back surface is magnetized to an S-pole. A detection unit moves in an X-Y plane at a position apart from the surface of the magnet. An X-direction detection element and a Y-direction detection element are installed in the detection unit. Both the X-direction detection element and the Y-direction detection element are magnetoresistive effect elements each having the bias magnetic field in a B-direction applied to a free magnetic layer directed perpendicular to the surface of the magnet. Each bias magnetic field is stabilized both in the X-direction detection element and the Y-direction detection element such that the detection unit accurately provides position detection output values in the X- and Y-directions.

    • There is provided a method outputting multi-band image data, including the steps of obtaining a spectral waveform per pixel of an image photographed by a multi-band camera; performing conversion of the thus obtained spectral waveform per pixel into control signals corresponding to a plurality of image reproduction processes, for outputting to an image outputting machine; and obtaining a final control signal synthesizing the plurality of control signals. There is also provided an apparatus for implementing the above method. The image reproduction processes can be consecutively switched in accordance with the purpose of the image reproduction, whereupon the image can be outputted in the image reproduction process suited most to the purpose for reproducing the color with a higher priority given to which factor, the coincidence of the visual appearance between the original image and the duplicate image or the stability of visual appearance.

    • In a method for transforming a color signal, a target output color signal component (X, Y, Z) is transformed into an input signal component (B, G, R) by referring to a look-up table, and a target output color signal component, which is not stored in the look-up table, is transformed into an input signal component by an interpolating process. In an output color signal space, a local coordinate system is set by using a successive approximation process, and a desired output color signal component is subjected to linear interpolation in the local coordinate system. A three-dimensional interpolating process is thus carried out quickly and accurately and over the entire color reproduction range.

    • A magnetic sensor includes a plurality of magnetoresistance effect elements and soft magnetic bodies. Each of the magnetoresistance effect elements is formed by stacking a magnetic layer and a non-magnetic layer on a substrate so as to exhibit a magnetoresistance effect. The magnetoresistance effect element is configured such that element portions and electrode layers are alternately disposed. A soft magnetic body is disposed on one and the other sides of each of the element portions in the Y direction, and the soft magnetic bodies are displaced from each other in the X direction. With this arrangement, an external magnetic field applied in the X1 direction is changed into an external magnetic field in the Y direction when passing through the soft magnetic bodies, and the changed external magnetic field flows into the element portions.
