    • A dielectric-barrier discharge lamp light source with a dielectric-barrier discharge lamp, the light source including a discharge plasma space filled with a discharge gas in which excimer molecules are formed by dielectric-barrier discharge, two electrodes adapted to induce a discharge phenomenon in the discharge gas, at least one of the two electrodes being separated from the discharge gas by a dielectric, and a power supply for impressing a substantially cyclical, high-voltage alternating current on the two electrodes of the dielectric-barrier discharge lamp in a manner that when the power supply completes a discharge in the dielectric-barrier discharge lamp and the voltage impressed on the dielectric-barrier discharge lamp changes for a subsequent discharge, there is a period of gradual change in a lamp voltage waveform (Vs(t)) before reaching a voltage required for beginning of the subsequent discharge, wherein subsequent to the period of gradual change, the voltage impressed on the dielectric-barrier discharge lamp by the power supply changes sharply.

    • An excimer lamp which can emit UV radiation with a high degree of efficiency and high degree of uniformity, has a UV-reflecting film that does not peel. The excimer lamp is fitted with a silica glass discharge vessel that encloses a discharge gas which forms excimer molecules by dielectric barrier discharge in an internal space enclosed by a top wall panel, a bottom wall panel, side wall panels and end panels and with an electrode on both the outer surface of the top wall panel and another electrode on the outer surface of the bottom wall panel. On the inner surface of the discharge vessel, a UV-reflecting film comprised of silica and alumina particles is formed, at least, on the inner surface area of the side wall panels with the silica particles composing at least 30 weight % of the UV-reflecting film.

    • A device for operation of a discharge lamp in which a dielectric barrier discharge lamp can discharge with high efficiency. A discharge lamp of the outside electrode type, a dielectric barrier discharge excimer lamp type, or the like, is operated by applying a lamp voltage of 1 kV to 10 kV with a periodic waveform by an operation circuit. In this lamp, within bulb including a dielectric, at least one type of rare gas is hermetically enclosed in a given amount. A dielectric barrier is located between at least one electrode and the gas, and a discharge is produced in the bulb via this dielectric barrier. The rise time or fall time of a waveform which represents a main energy supply time in the periodic waveform, is fixed at greater than or equal to 0.03 .mu.s and less than or equal to 9 .mu.s. Furthermore, the distance between the waveform which represents the main energy supply and a adjacent waveform which represents an adjacent main energy supply is greater than or equal to 3.4 .mu.s.
