    • A RAM disk driver 112 receives the user's specification for the capacity of a RAM disk 122 via an operation screen image 10 (step S20). The RAM disk driver 112 sets a continuous region in an OS invisible area, which is beyond management of an operating system installed in a computer, on a RAM 120 for a storage area of the RAM disk 122 having the user's specified capacity (step S30). When the user's specified capacity is greater than the capacity of the OS invisible area on the RAM 120, the RAM disk driver 112 reduces the range of an OS visible area, which is managed by the operating system, on the RAM 120 and sets the storage area of the RAM disk 122 in the expanded OS invisible area. This arrangement effectively boosts up access to the RAM 120 as the primary storage in the computer.

    • An electronic device has: an operation unit; a power supply unit; an input changeover switch; and a controller. The power supply unit is supplied commercial power and supplies the operating power to the operation unit. The input changeover switch switches between supplying or not supplying the commercial power to the power supply unit. The controller controls the input changeover switch. The controller includes: a power input portion; a control signal input portion; and a switching signal output portion. When the device power is being supplied from a master electronic device to the power input portion and the control signal from the master electronic device is received by the control signal input portion, the switching signal output portion outputs to the input changeover switch a signal instructing to switch and supply the commercial power to the power supply unit.

    • A peripheral device of the invention is capable of data communication with a host device via one of a first-type interface and a second-type interface having different data communication-related specifications. The peripheral device has a single connector for making electric connection selectively with a first-type connector or a second-type connector. The peripheral device also has a controller for performing an initial connection process that makes a logical connection between the peripheral device and the host device via the first-type interface or the second-type interface. While the physical connection is maintained, the controller breaks the logical connection established by the initial connection process and subsequently makes another logical connection between the peripheral device and the host device.
