    • A head mounted display system is shown that is modular such that various components of the system are removably mounted and/or adjustably mounted on a frame that is supported on a user's head. The head mounted display system can thus accommodate different users and components of different configurations. In particular, the display system includes a mirror through which a displayed image is viewed, the position of the mirror being adjustable and the mirror being removable from the frame of the display system. The display system further includes a nose piece that is adjustably mounted on the frame so as to allow the distance between the frame member supporting the display and a nose bridge to be varied. The nose piece is further completely removable from the frame of the display system so as to allow the display system to accommodate a user wearing conventional glasses. The display system also includes removable earphones and removable earphone retainers disposed on the temples of the display system. The hinges connecting the temples to the frame of the display system are removable and further include wire retaining members so as to maintain the earphone wire, if present, adjacent to the temple of the display system.

    • A fiber optic display sign has an optical system with enhanced light efficiency so that the display system is suitable for outdoor use. A number of fiber optics have light receiving ends arranged in a compact bundle for receiving an image from an image generator, the fiber optics coupling the image to the output ends thereof for display. An array of lenses is positioned adjacent the output ends of the fiber optics for directing or aiming the light from the fiber optics to control the viewing angle of the image displayed. The array of lenses may be fixed with respect to the output ends of the fiber optics or the lens array may be movable with respect thereto so as to vary the viewing angle. The image generator employs a light source formed of a densely packed array of white light emitting diodes to provide enhanced brightness. The image generator includes a number of image bearing transparencies mounted on a movable support that is controlled to position a selected transparency between the light source and the light receiving ends of the fiber optics for display. The viewing angle and/or the image displayed is automatically controlled and/or remotely controlled.

    • A low air warning system for scuba divers in which a pressure switch and an electromagnetic transmitter are positioned at or near the high pressure air supply tank of the scuba diver and a corresponding electromagnetic receiver is positioned on the diver's mask. A plenum extending from the receiver, provides a pair of LED light indicators of two different colors which also oscillate at different frequencies, depending upon the condition of the pressure switch in response to the supply of air in the diver's air supply tank. A unique electromagnetic transmission and receiving system is disclosed which relies upon magnetic induction between a high Q transmitting antenna and a high Q receiving antenna in the form of LC tank circuits. One of the novelties of the present invention is the use of frequency modulation and the use of distinct modulating tone frequencies which produce one or the other of two signals to activate one or the other of two LEDs of different colors and at different activation frequencies. Changes in both the color and frequency of the flashing light virtually assure that the diver cannot ignore a change in the status of his air supply when it has been reduced sufficiently to fall below a threshold that is sensed by a pressure attached to a valve on the tank.
