    • The present invention relates to a scanning probe (2) for capturing data from a plurality of points on the surface of an object by irradiating the object with a light stripe and detecting light reflected from the object surface, the scanning probe comprising (a) stripe generating means (14) for generating and emitting a light stripe (55); (b) a camera (16) comprising an imaging sensor having an array of pixels to detect the light stripe reflected from the object surface; (c) means for adjusting the intensity of the light stripe (55) during acquisition of the frame, in dependence upon the intensities detected by the camera (16). It also relates to a means to modify the stripe length, a scanner with separate compartment for the processing means, and an attachable dust cover for a scanner.

    • Apparatus for generating computer models of individuals is provided comprising a booth (1) that is connected to a server (2) via the Internet (3). Image data of an individual is captured using the booth (1) and a computer model corresponding to the individual is then generated by comparing the captured image data relative to a stored generic model. Data representative of a generated model is then transmitted to the server (2) where it is stored. Stored data can then be retrieved via the Internet using a personal computer (4) having application software stored therein. The application software on the personal computer (4) can then utilise the data to create graphic representations of an individual in any one of a number of poses.

    • It is a purpose of this invention to provide a Hover CMM to accurately measure an object. The Hover CMM comprises: a probe, an air vehicle and a localiser. The probe is mounted on the air vehicle. The air vehicle transports the probe around the surface of the object. The localiser tracks the position and orientation of the probe. The air vehicle is capable of hovering, slow and rapid movement. The measurements made by the probe are synchronised with the measurements made by the localiser. In a further embodiment, multiple probes, multiple air vehicles and multiple localisers can be provided in a system. In a further embodiment, the air vehicle has additional propulsion means for reducing wander. In another embodiment, the air vehicle is tethered. In a further embodiment, a gantry is provided for tethering the air vehicle. In another embodiment, a tilting means is provided to incline the probe relative to the air vehicle. Methods are provided for measuring an object and for controlling the wander of the air vehicle.
