    • Methods are provided for implementing selective personality negotiation during session negotiation. In one embodiment, an access node maintains an access-node-supported set of one or more personalities supported by the access node, wherein the access-node-supported set comprises a personality 0. The access node receives from an access terminal an access-terminal-supported set of one or more personalities supported by the access terminal, wherein the access-terminal-supported set also comprises the personality 0. Responsive to receiving the access-terminal-supported set, the access node negotiates a session-specific set of one or more personalities with the access terminal for use by the access terminal during a session, the session-specific set consisting of personality 0 and a first personality, wherein the first personality is a highest-numbered personality in the intersection of the access-node-supported set and the access-terminal-supported set.

    • Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for basing a handoff of a mobile device on its position within a coverage area of a source base transceiver station (BTS) are provided. Initially, embodiments involve recording threshold distances, associated with candidate BTSs neighboring the source BTS, and capturing pilot strength measurement messages (PSMM's) at each of the threshold distances. Upon establishing a connection to the source BTS, the position of the mobile device is monitored to detect a traversal of the threshold distances. Consequently, the mobile device reports a current PSMM for comparison against the captured PSMM's. If any messages correspond, a candidate BTS is selected for receiving the connection of the mobile device. Otherwise, the connection to the source BTS is maintained. Accordingly, the distance of the mobile device from the source BTS at which the handoff is invoked may vary based on a radial direction of the mobile device therefrom.

    • Methods and systems are provided for synchronizing reservation status between an access terminal and an access node. In one embodiment, an access terminal receives a report from an access node, the report reflecting a first set of reservations, wherein the first set is a set of reservations that the access node is maintaining with respect to communicating with the access terminal. In response to receiving the report, the access terminal compares the first set of reservations with a second set of reservations, wherein the second set is a set of reservations that the access terminal is maintaining with respect to communicating with the access node. Upon comparing the first set with the second set, the access terminal determines that the first set is not equal to the second set, and responsively sends one or more messages to the access node to cause the access node to modify the first set to match the second set.

    • Methods and systems are provided for session restoration upon return to EV-DO. In one embodiment, a first radio network controller (RNC) receives from an access terminal a session-establishment request, where the session-establishment request requests establishment of a session for the access terminal. The first RNC determines that the session-establishment request indicates that the access terminal does not currently have a session, and responsively queries a second RNC to determine whether the access terminal currently has a session with the second RNC, which the access terminal does. After querying the second RNC, the first RNC receives session data from the second RNC, where the session data corresponds to the session that the access terminal currently has with the second RNC. The first RNC uses the received session data to set up a session with the first RNC for the access terminal.
