    • A shaving apparatus has a housing (1), a shaving head (2) and a hair-collecting chamber (3) for collecting hair cuttings, the shaving head comprising a holder (4) which is connected to the housing by means of a hinge construction (15). The holder comprises an external cutting member (6) and an internal cutting member (8). For driving the internal cutting member a drive member (11) of a drive unit (10) can be coupled to the internal cutting member (8). For cleaning the hair-collecting chamber (3) the chamber is opened by pivoting the holder (4) and after the cleaning process the holder is pivoted back onto the housing. During opening and closing of the hair-collecting chamber the drive member (11) and the internal cutting member (8) are coupled and uncoupled. In order to improve coupling and uncoupling the hinge construction is such that in a first stage of the movement of the holder the holder is moved substantially in a longitudinal direction (14) of the drive member (11).

During cutting of a hair, the hair exerts a cutting force (FR) on the inner cutter (6), which force has a direction that is opposite to the driving force (FD) for driving the inner cutter. Claimed is that the driving device comprises only one rotationally drivable coupling element (11) having at least one driving surface (12), that the driving shaft (18) bears axially (32,33) on the outer cutter (4) via said coupling element (11), and that the inner cutter (6) comprises at least one driven surface (13) cooperating with said driving surface (12) for exerting the driving force (FD), the direction of the driving force (FD) being substantially perpendicular to the driving surface (12) and the driven surface (13).

    • A shaving apparatus includes at least one cutting unit having an inner cutter rotationally drivable with respect to an outer cutter by driving shaft of a driving device. The driving shaft exerts a prestress force on the inner cutter in the direction of the outer cutter. During cutting of a hair, the hair exerts a cutting force on the inner cutter directed opposite the driving force. The driving shaft bears axially on the outer cutter via at least one driving surface of a coupling element which is rotationally drivable. The inner cutter includes at least one driven surface for cooperating with the driving surface for exerting the driving force. The direction of the driving force is substantially perpendicular to the driving surface and the driven surface.
