    • An organic electro luminance display device according to the present invention comprises a plurality of gate lines and data lines to define a plurality of pixels and a plurality of power lines to apply a signal to the pixels; a data driving unit for supplying the signal to the data line; an emitting unit at each pixel to emit; a first thin film transistor at each pixel, the first thin film transistor being turned on by the signal inputted through the gate line; a second thin film transistor at each pixel, the second thin film transistor being turned on to apply the signal to the emitting signal through the power line when the first thin film transistor is turned on; a ground terminal voltage controlling unit for controlling a first ground terminal voltage and a second ground terminal voltage to determine respectively the voltage output from the data driving unit and the voltage applied to the emitting unit according to the first ground terminal voltage and the second ground terminal voltage, wherein the second ground terminal voltage is higher than the first ground terminal voltage to apply the voltage lower than a reference voltage to the second thin film transistor.

    • A driving method and apparatus for a liquid crystal display is provided in which a contrast ratio of data to be displayed can be expanded and the brightness of a back light can be changed using an accumulated result of a plurality of frames. In the driving method, data to be displayed is converted into brightness components and arranged into a histogram for each frame. Second data having an expanded contrast is generated using the histograms of at least two frames, including the histogram of the current frame. Averages of the histograms are calculated and used to control the brightness of the back light. The averages may be weighted such that frames closer to the current frame have a larger effect.

    • A method of driving a liquid crystal display is provided in which the contrast can be selectively emphasized dependent upon the input data. The input data is converted into brightness components and chrominance components. The most-frequent brightness component is extracted from a histogram of the brightness components, and the histogram is divided into regions, which are re-arranged in correspondence with the extracted most-frequent value. The brightness components of each region are then modified using a curve having a slope that is dependent upon the total number of brightness components in the particular region. Data in which the contrast ratio has been selectively emphasized is generated using the modulated brightness components and the chrominance components.
