    • A method for applying personalized rules to an incoming e-mail message includes receiving an e-mail message addressed to a user and forwarding a copy of the e-mail message to a mobile communication device associated with the user. One or more pre-defined rules associated with the user are applied to the e-mail message. At least one of the pre-defined rules is identified that the e-mail message satisfies. The identified rule specifies that a text message such as an SMS message be sent to the mobile communication device indicating that an e-mail message satisfying the pre-defined rule has been received. The text message includes a link that allows the user to directly access the e-mail with the mobile communication device's user interface.

    • A method of and system for deriving hierarchical structure from a set of digital objects is presented. The set of digital objects, such as digital images for example, may include a plurality of digital objects each associated with a data tag (such as a date, location, and/or text description, for example) that is part of a flat property set that does not encode the hierarchical relationships of the data objects. The set of digital objects may be filtered by a query and a query engine. Each data tag of each digital object may be compared on the basis of a relationship, such as mathematical equality, proximity in value, and/or similarity of text strings, for example. A hierarchical data structure may be established that includes a parent data segment and a child data segment, each labeled with a related data tag and populated with one or more related digital objects. The hierarchical data structure may be represented by a tree or by nested folders.

    • Position based tactile reporting provides for adequate and socially acceptable reporting. A tactile element is moved from a first position to a second position to indicate a status. The tactile element is maintained in the second position so that touching the tactile element and detecting the second position determines a status. In another aspect, the tactile element oscillates to indicate status. In this manner, a user may adequately and discretely detect a status of a computing device without engaging in socially inappropriate behavior.

    • Embodiments related to the control of a computing device via an audio output apparatus having a context sensor are provided. One disclosed embodiment provides a computing device configured to receive a first input from a context sensor on an audio output apparatus, and to activate a selected listening mode based on the first input, wherein the listening mode defining a mapping of a set of context sensor inputs to a set of computing device functionalities. The storage subsystem further includes instructions executable by the logic subsystem to receive a second input from the context sensor after activating the selected listening mode, and in response, to selectively trigger execution of a computing device functionality from the set of computing device functionalities based on the second input, and to transform an audio signal supplied to the audio output apparatus based on the selected computing device functionality.
