    • A sleever apparatus includes an inner member with a central passage through which an item to be sleeved is passed. An outer member surrounds the inner member and defines a space between the members for holding a supply of containment material, which is preferably plastic sleeving. The apparatus has a handle which allows a user to hold the apparatus and walk the apparatus along the length of the item to be sleeved. As the user passes the item through the sleever apparatus, the containment material exits through a slit at one end of the apparatus in order to contain the item. The sleever apparatus may be formed of disposable materials, such as cardboard, and may be intended for a single use application. Alternatively, the sleever apparatus may be comprised of more permanent materials such as PVC or fiberglass. The sleever apparatus may include a serrated end for cutting the containment material and may include appropriate tubing and valves for either directing an inert gas into the containment material around the item or for withdrawing air from within the containment material in order to create a vacuum. In one embodiment, the sleever apparatus has a cartridge that can be replaced with another cartridge once the supply of the containment material has been depleted.

    • A method and ink-jet ink composition are provided for reducing crystallization of Acid Yellow 23 anionic dye in ink-jet ink compositions printed on transparencies and glossy media, both film- and paper-based. The method comprises formulating the yellow ink-jet ink composition in accordance with at least one of the following three conditions: (a) a first condition, wherein the yellow ink-jet ink composition includes about 6 to 9 wt % ethylhydroxypropanediol, about 3 to 9 wt % 2-pyrrolidone, and about 3 to 9 wt % diethylene glycol; (b) a second condition, wherein the vehicle of the yellow ink-jet ink includes a buffer in amount sufficient to maintain the pH of the ink-jet ink within the range of about 5 to 7; and (c) a third condition, wherein the cation of the inorganic salt component of the ink-jet ink comprises calcium ions to the substantial exclusion of magnesium ions. While any or all of the foregoing conditions may be implemented to reduce crystallization in the yellow ink, a combination of the three is particularly efficacious. A narrower embodiment also incorporates two alternative techniques, namely reducing the dye load of the yellow ink to no more than about 3.5 wt % and increasing the thickness of the clear polymeric surface coating of the transparency or glossy media to at least about 12 .mu.m from its typical 10 .mu.m. The solution offered by the present method and ink-jet ink composition is easily and inexpensively implemented and does not sacrifice overall print quality.

    • A neon sign circuit is disclosed having a neon tube forming the lighted portion of the sign, a source of electrical power, and a high voltage transformer between the electrical power source and the neon tube. The circuit also includes a neon sign circuit malfunction detector circuit. This circuit includes a ground fault detector connected in the circuit between the source of power and the transformer, to ground, and to the neutral load side of the primary windings of the transformer. A pair of adjustable spark gaps are each connected to one of the secondary windings of the transformer between the transformer and the neon tube. A light source is connected between each spark gap and ground and light sensitive resistors are positioned adjacent to each light source. The resistors are connected between the ground connection of the ground fault detector and the neutral load connection between the transformer and the ground fault detector so that when a malfunction in the neon sign circuit occurs,a spark will jump one of the spark gaps to energize the light source, increase the resistance of the light sensitive resistor and cause the ground fault detector to cut off power to the transformer, as if it was sensing a ground fault.
