    • An apparatus for cleaning a surface comprises a truck with a hydraulic system and a trailer with a blast assembly, dust collector and electric power generator. The apparatus is configurable into an operating mode and a transport mode. In the operating mode, the apparatus is driven by means of the hydraulic system, the blast assembly is lowered to the surface by a hydraulic cylinder and the blast assembly extends beyond the width of the trailer to clean a wide area. Abrasive material is propelled against the surface by a plurality of motor-driven centrifugal blast wheels and is returned for reuse by a return auger and an elevator. Air flow created by the dust collector facilitates return of spent abrasive material for reuse. In another preferred embodiment, a recapture assembly is attached to the blast assembly to capture abrasive material escaping between the blast assembly and the surface to be cleaned. In the transport mode, the apparatus is driven by the truck without use of the hydraulic system, the elevator is pivoted to an inclined position, and the blast assembly is both retracted toward the trailer and rotated to be entirely beneath the trailer.

    • A dust collector including a plurality of filter units and an arrangement for periodically providing reverse flow through a single filter unit to remove dust therefrom while maintaining normal flow of air through the remaining units. The filter units are connected to a plurality of ducts, and a centrifugal fan is provided for effecting reverse flow of air through the ducts sequentially to remove collected dust from the filter units. A transverse duct extends transversely of and contiguous to the first-mentioned ducts. A plurality of openings are provided for selective communication between the transverse duct and the first-mentioned ducts. A control vane is provided within each of the first-mentioned ducts and is movable between a first position wherein it blocks the corresponding opening to permit normal flow of air through that duct and a second position wherein it blocks normal flow of air and directs air from the centrifugal fan in a reverse flow through the duct to remove the dust from the filter unit connected thereto. A rotatable shaft having a plurality of notched discs mounted thereon is provided for actuating the movable vanes. The notched portions of the discs are angularly displaced from each other to effect sequential movement of the vanes.

    • A blasting machine having a blasting device for directing abrading material at high velocity through an opening adjacent a surface to be cleaned. Incorporated between an upwardly-extending conduit for receiving rebounded, spent abrasive and an elevated hopper for delivering abrasive to the blasting device is a cleaning apparatus having sufficient vertical elongation to clean and remove debris effectively from the abrasive recovered during the cleaning operation. The upwardly-extending conduit directs the rebounded abrasive into an upper part of the abrasive cleaner. The cleaner has a series of vertically-disposed baffles to create an array of showers of debris and abrasive through which is drawn air to entrain and separate the debris from the abrasive. The abrasive after having been cleansed is collected in a lower part of the machine and returned to the elevated hopper for delivery to the blasting device. The debris withdrawn from the abrasive is collected in a remote position for discarding.

    • A surface cleaning apparatus utilizing abrasive projected at high velocity against the surface being treated. The apparatus defines an opening in an enclosure through which abrasive is propelled in a high velocity stream or blast to impact against the surface. A pathway in communication with the opening receives and directs rebounded, spent abrasive to a collection bin. A rotating brush within the boundary of the opening of the enclosure and the kinetic energy of the abrasive are used to direct the spent abrasive in the pathway. A recycling apparatus is integrated within other elements in the enclosure to collect spent abrasive rebounded in pathway for return to the high velocity blast stream.

    • The cleaning apparatus includes a wheel in the form of a rapidly rotating drum having relatively few blades spaced circumferentially about the periphery thereof and extending radially thereon. Abrasive material is delivered from a hopper through a slot and is picked up by the blades of the rapidly rotating drum and delivered with extremely high kinetic energy into the surface to be cleaned. The apparatus is constructed so that the recovery path of the abrasive material from the surface to be cleaned and the delivery path of the abrasive material directed to the surface to be cleaned are in the same plane and in the same plane as the plane of rotation of the drum. The recovery path is generally contiguous with the housing of the drum, creating a compact apparatus which utilizes the normal path of movement of the recovered abrasive material. By providing an apparatus in which the delivery and recovery paths are both essentially in the same plane and in the plane of the rotating drum, the size of the apparatus required is reduced, wear on the components of the apparatus is significantly reduced, the construction is simplified and the cost is reduced.

    • A mobile machine for abrading a surface by propelling abrasive material against the surface from a blast assembly which moves from side to side of the machine. The machine includes a wheeled frame with a pair of parallel track members mounted across the frame. The blast assembly is supported on rollers which travel upon the track members. A coupling with a worm drive bore is mounted to the front and the rear of the blast assembly. A motor-drive worm drive shaft is journaled through each worm drive bore to move the blast assembly back and forth across the frame. The blast assembly includes a blast housing with a blast corridor and a blast opening to the surface being abraded, a hopper to gravity feed abrasive material into the blast corridor, a centrifugal blast wheel with rotating blades which propel abrasive material against the surface, a return corridor and an air wash. A remote dust collector is connected to the air wash to draw air and abrasive material from the blast opening to the air wash. Abrasive material falls from the air wash into the hopper for reuse. A vacuum blower attached to an on-board dust collector or a cyclone separator may be mounted upon the air wash to provide additional air flow for the return of abrasive material to the air wash and the hopper.

    • A surface treating device for treating a surface having a corner formed by obstacles such as walls or curbs. The apparatus comprises a housing supported on a movable frame. An opening in the housing defines a blast zone on the surface to be treated. A hopper collects abrasive material and directs it to a propeller. The propeller propels the abrasive material from the hopper toward the blast zone with sufficient kinetic energy that the material rebounds from the surface into a rebound corridor. The rebound corridor has a first linear portion which forms the forward most aspect of the apparatus, and the first linear portion is substantially perpendicular to the surface being treated. From the rebound corridor, the recovered abrasive is returned to the hopper. The apparatus has a rotatable, adjustable handle to facilitate movement alongside and under obstacles. A push plate is provided on the rear of the frame under the handle, thereby making it easier to move the apparatus.

    • A mobile surface treating apparatus having a plurality of nonvertically aligned debris removal means. The apparatus comprises a housing supported on a wheeled platform. A propeller or an elevator moves the abrasive material to the second end of the transfer corridor, where it is received in a second funnel. The second funnel empties into the hopper. Air flow intersects the curtains or streams of abrasive material from each funnel and debris is thereby separated and removed form the recovered abrasive material.
