    • A filter bypass switch for detecting a clogged or restricted flow condition in a filter such as an oil filter, the bypass switch including a housing having a passage extending therein, a plunger slidably positioned in the passage for movement therein, a wall in the housing closing the passage adjacent one end of the plunger, and a biasing member for urging the plunger to move in a predetermined direction relative to the housing wall. The present switch also includes a magnet attached or otherwise located on one end of the plunger for axial movement relative to the housing wall, and a reed switch having first and second relatively movable members located on the wall in axial alignment with the magnet, the first and second movable reed switch members being movable between open and closed circuit conditions when the magnet is moved by the plunger between positions that change the magnetic interaction between the magnet and the reed switch, the plunger being movable in the passage in response to the fluid pressure at the inlet of the filter.

    • A disk array controller reliably detects disk drive power-on-reset events that may cause a disk drive that has uncommitted write data stored in its cache to lose such data. The methods for detecting the power-on-reset events include operating the disk drives in an ATA security mode in which a power-on-reset of a disk drive will cause the drive to enter a locked state in which data transfer commands are aborted; and tracking power cycle count attributes of the disk drives over time. When a disk drive power-on-reset event is detected, the disk array may be efficiently restored to an operational state by re-executing or “replaying” a set of write commands that are cached within the disk array controller. The invention is also applicable to single-disk-drive storage systems.

    • The indications of attitude indicators at two different indicating locations that are indicating the same parameter but actuated from different sources, are monitored for the same indication by electrically interconnecting two transolvers that are mechanically coupled to the respective attitude indicator at each location. A monitor, at one indicating location, furnishes the excitation for the transolver at the other location and by the magnitudes of the sine and cosine outputs of the local transolver furnishes flag indication of any system defects of either indicator at each location.
