    • A method for enabling the cleaning of fibers in a fiber cleaning machine in which a cleaning stream moves tufts around a rotating cleaning cylinder, the tufts being cleaned and opened. The cleaning action can be adapted to fibers of varying origin and to an increasing degree of opening in the course of cleaning. The cleaning stream is, to a large extent, controlled and controllable by decoupling it from the dynamic behavior of the transport streams which transport material to and away from the cleaning process. Compensation for variations in the cleaning stream, and in the material supplied for cleaning, are achieved by control of the cleaning intensity, in order that the tufts emerging from the cleaning process are constant and optimally cleaned and opened. The invention concerns also suitable fiber cleaning apparatus for the realization of the described method. The apparatus includes a cleaning cylinder positioned in a casing and a plurality of cleaning elements extending from the cylinder. The length, shape and density of the elements can change along the length of the cleaning cylinder so that the cleaning intensity varies along the length of the cylinder. Adjustable grid bars can be positioned below the cleaning cylinder.

Each spring pair is fixedly connected at one end to a bearing member of the related calender roll and at its other end by means of a carrier to side walls of the wind-up apparatus. A piston of a pneumatic cylinder moves the calender rolls from a rest position, in which there is a spacing D between the calender rolls and a spacing E between the last calender roll and the first winding roller, into a working position in which the calender rolls are pressed against one another in the absence of an intervening fiber layer. The position of the calender rolls in their rest position is maintained by the spring pairs.

    • A machine for cleaning textile fibres includes a horizontal rotating roller with beater elements and bar grates on the underside of the roller. Delivery air transports the textile fibres in the form of flocks through an inlet which is arranged above the upper side and at one end of the roller. An outlet for the air transporting the fibres is located above the upper side and at the other end of the roller. Between the inlet and the outlet at least three, preferably five transfer chambers are located over the upper side of the roller, each of which lead the air stream passing around the roller axis further in the axial direction of the axis by about the width in the axial direction of the chamber. The transfer chambers are defined by four, preferably six deflectors inclined by an ascending angle with respect to the axis of the roller. The combination of the number of the transfer chambers, the specified ascending angle and the width of the chambers provides an arrangement which can prevent the collection of quantities of fibre and fibre lumps in the transfer chambers.
