    • A precision fuel injector having an inwardly opening pressure operated valve positioned in a bore forming a valve chamber and guided for reciprocal movement to open and close the valve wherein a threaded stepped cylindrical valve guide sleeve at the end of the valve chamber opposite the valve tip mounts the valve and cooperates with a mating portion of the bore to form an annulus filled with an initially flowable settable sealant. The sealant is pressurized during assembly of the guide sleeve and is forced into the clearance between the threads of the guide and the threads of the bore on both sides of the annulus to increase the length of the seal and to lock the guide sleeve in place. The blind end of the guide sleeve bottoms against a shoulder in the bore to establish a predetermined minimum cross-section of the annulus to minimize the possibility of fracture of the sealant ring therein due to differential expansion, and a pilot extending from the end of the guide sleeve and closely fitted within the surrounding bore protects the sealant against corrosion by the repetitive high impact hydraulic forces within the valve chamber.

    • A flushing device for toilets having a float directly connected to the movable part of an inlet valve to form a unitary moving element. A siphon empties the flush tank and becomes inactive until a full tank is flushed again. When the float, which is slidably mounted in a chamber, is forced down for flushing, it forces water from the float chamber into the siphon either alone or with water from the inlet valve, to start a siphoning action to empty the flush tank. At the same time the float opens the inlet valve to supply additional water to start the siphon and to keep the valve open until the flush tank is refilled at which time the float has been raised to its normal position. Provisions are made for preventing a reverse flow from the tank into the inlet pipe during failure of the water supply and for filling the toilet bowl to the desired level at the end of the flushing operation. Provision is also made for conserving water by flushing a predetermined quantity of water for solids and considerably less water for liquids and by providing means for regulating the amount of water to be flushed by the flushing unit.

    • 858,492. Filters. ROOSA, V. D. Feb. 6, 1959 [Feb. 20, 1958], No. 4232/59. Class 46. A filter, especially for liquid fuels, may be disassembled by manually turning a cap 11 having axially and non-rotatably mounted therein (by peening 71 and head - fitting socket 49 respectively) a bolt 13. Such turning releases the lower end of the bolt from the threaded bore 26 of the hub portion 17 of a base 10 whereupon a cartridge 12 consisting of imperforate outer cylinder 34, imperforate conduit 40, centrally-apertured end-plate 35, perforate end-plate 36 and paper element 43, may be lifted off the base. On removal of the cartridge a valve 58 is raised by a spring 60 to cover holes 55 in the hub 17 which normally permit filtrate to flow from conduit 40 to outlet passage 30. Unfiltered fuel introduced at 21 passes upwards through plate 36 and upwards through the folds of paper 43, filtrate flowing radially inwards under plate 35 and then through a spider 37 into conduit 40 and also between hubs 68 and 47 into the cap interior. Rubberlike members 52, 53 are bonded to the endplates of the filter cartridge.
