    • Systems and techniques for estimation of item ratings for a user. A set of item ratings by multiple users is maintained, and similarity measures for all items are precomputed, as well as values used to generate interpolation weights for ratings neighboring a rating of interest to be estimated. A predetermined number of neighbors are selected for an item whose rating is to be estimated, the neighbors being those with the highest similarity measures. Global effects are removed, and interpolation weights for the neighbors are computed simultaneously. The interpolation weights are used to estimate a rating for the item based on the neighboring ratings, Suitably, ratings are estimated for all items in a predetermined dataset that have not yet been rated by the user, and recommendations are made of the user by selecting a predetermined number of items in the dataset having the highest estimated ratings.

    • Embodiments of the invention provide a method and system for sending a session key file encryption key for use in the secure transmission of an encrypted media stream across a network. A logging node receives a double encrypted session key file encryption key. The session key file encryption key is used to encrypt session keys, which in turn can be used to decrypt the encrypted media stream. The logging node decrypts the session key file encryption key. Thereafter, the logging node sends the session key file encryption key to a reviewing node for use in secure transmission of the encrypted media stream.

    • A method of handling a stuck bit in a directory of a cache memory which detects an error in a stored tag having an address field, a state field and an error-correction field, determines that the error is associated with a stuck bit of the directory member, marks the directory member as defective, and casts out corrected address information. The error is detected during processing of a cache directory access request, and is determined to be associated with a stuck bit of the directory member by attempting to correct a first error and then detecting a second error after the first correction attempt. The address information is cast out by routing a surrogate tag contained in a surrogate member of the cache directory through error-correction pipeline circuitry while transmitting the address information from the surrogate member to a cast-out machine.
