    • Two slidable carriages of identical construction are slidably mounted in a welding device side by side and move alternately 180 degrees out of phase with each other in a linear reciprocating movement. Pivotal gripping plates are mounted on the slidable carriages which alternately clamp on selected gaps between flux coating sections of the welding electrode to advance it continuously towards the work piece. Crank shafts are incorporated in the welding device to produce the linear reciprocating movement of the two slidable carriages, and cam wheels and pivotal bars are provided to locate alternately one group of gripping plates in the closed position to carry the welding electrode forward while the other group of gripping plates are in the opened position to facilitate the welding electrode to advance.

    • A continuous welding electrode suitable for short circuit welding is provided. The electrode has a continuous metal core with a welding flux material coated on its entire outer surface and circumscribing gaps are formed at regular interval over its entire length to expose a portion of the metal core. The gaps are adaptable for applying the welding current to the electrode in the welding operation. The melting temperature of the welding flux material is about 0.8 to 0.9 times the melting temperature of the metal core; and the unit weight of the welding flux material coating is about 0.37 to 0.48 times the unit weight of the metal core.

    • An electrode driving system for welding device has two mirror image carriages are located side by side to one another and mounted to a main frame. Each carriage has an elongated slider rod therein movable in a reciprocating manner relative to the carriage. The front portion of the slider rod has narrow sections formed by depressions located on its opposite upper and lower edges. A plurality of pairs of jaw elements are pivotally mounted in the carriages. The jaw elements are in contact engagement with the upper and lower edges of the slider rod and they are in a closed position to clamp on or release the clamp on the welding electrode while the carriages are alternately moving back and forth in the reciprocating manner for driving said electrode continuously forward toward a workpiece.
