摘要： A hevy duty, retractable, hydraulic, telescopic shock absorber of the type employed on fire engines, artillery vehicles and the like includes a valve arrangement for venting the main cylinder to hold a floating absorber piston in any working position. The shock absorber includes a passageway between a damping fluid reservoir and the cylinder chamber. The passageway is in open communication with the cylinder chamber when the floating piston is in an extreme position. A valve closes the passageway when the floating piston is in a position other than the extreme position.

This is attained by giving no damping function to the liquid passages in the pistons, by which all pistons can be provided with an equal number of passages with a fixed, relative large cross-section. 摘要： A shock absorber comprising a cylinder which is divided into two chambers by a piston slidably mounted therein. A casing surrounds the cylinder and forms a reservoir therebetween. The reservoir is divided into two chambers by a ring-shaped seal having a restricted opening therein. A cap closes the upper ends of the cylinder and the casing and guides the piston rod through a piston rod packing therein. A pipe connects the lower portion of the cylinder to the restricted opening and includes a one-way valve therein. A ring-shaped chamber in the cap surrounds the piston rod adjacent to the piston rod packing and communicates with the upper reservoir chamber. This structure permits the damping fluid which leaks around the piston rod to drain into the upper reservoir; and upon the buildup of heat-related pressure at the piston rod packing, the one-way valve opens to relieve the pressure.
