    • A communication network includes a wireless network, a location platform, and a network component. The wireless network includes a base station to send data to and receive data from a mobile station via radio frequency communication signals. The location platform is operably coupled to the wireless network. In one embodiment, the location platform computes a velocity of the mobile station in response to a velocity request. The network component is operably coupled between the wireless network and the location platform. In one embodiment, the network component compares the computed velocity of the mobile station with a velocity threshold in response to an attempted communication involving the mobile station. The network component also implements a restrictive action for the attempted communication involving the mobile station in response to a determination that the computed velocity exceeds the velocity threshold.

    • A method of processing a transaction for provision of funds to a mobile telephone prepayment account associated with a mobile telephone is disclosed. The method includes: an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) receiving, from a card associated with a user of the mobile telephone, information identifying a financial account associated with the user of the mobile device; the ATM receiving, from a user, an identifier associated with the mobile telephone; the ATM receiving, from the user, information indicating an amount of funds to be provided to the mobile telephone prepayment account; and the ATM sending, to a financial institution associated with the financial account, an instruction to transfer the indicated amount of funds from the financial account to the wireless service provider, so as to provide the indicated amount of funds to the mobile telephone prepayment account.

    • A system and method for replenishing prepaid account balances is disclosed. Consumers are issued a prepaid account card similar to a credit card. Funds are added to prepaid accounts at retail locations by providing cash or equivalent to a clerk along with the prepaid account card. The clerk swipes the prepaid account card in an authorization terminal and rings up the transaction in a manner similar to a normal credit card transaction. The transaction is transmitted to a bank which processes the transaction and notifies a replenishment system that the customer has added value to the prepaid account. The replenishment system provides the customer with a confirmation number associated with the transaction. The replenishment system notifies a prepaid engine for the prepaid account. The prepaid engine updates the user's prepaid account balance, thereby making funds available for future purchases by the user. The user may also add funds to the prepaid account via an automated teller machine (ATM), via the Internet or by dialing certain feature codes on a wireless telephone.

    • A pre-paid subscriber account system for use with wireless telephone systems is disclosed. The system, which monitors a subscriber's call, deducts the cost of the call from the subscriber's pre-paid account in real-time, warns the subscriber during a call when the account is nearing depletion, and terminates the call when the account is depleted. The system can also prevent the initiation of a new call when the account is depleted. Various options can also apply different charging rates, can charge only when specified criteria are met, or can charge only for calls to/from specified areas or telephone numbers. The system and method uses signaling techniques that will allow the metering or billing of the call, along with any authorization or restrictions, to be done remotely from the actual switching of the call. Call events or chargeable events are transmitted to the pre-paid control system while the communications path of the call is held at the switching system awaiting control information. The identity of the pre-paid service subscriber is established using existing devices that currently are used to authenticate the user. The wireless phone user does not have to enter any additional codes or identification to obtain -access to the pre-paid service.
