    • The invention relates to a data transfer method in a digital cellular radio network, the method comprising channel coding the information to be transferred for transmission. In order to implement a data rate of 14.4 kbit/s in GSM type of cellular radio systems by employing one time slot only for data transmission, the channel coding according to the method of the invention comprises grouping bits to be transmitted in blocks having the minimum size of 288 bits, carrying out convolutional coding for the blocks with a code rate of ½ by using GSM convolutional coding polynomes, and puncturing the bits obtained by deleting bits from each block so that blocks containing no more than 456 bits will be obtained.

    • A signal detection method in a TDMA mobile system with co-channel interference and receivers implementing the method. In the method, a primary signal (r.sub.1) and at least one interfering co-channel signal (r.sub.2 -r.sub.N) are received on the same TDMA channel (F.sub.1, TS.sub.3). The co-channel signals propagate through multipath channels (h.sub.L,1 . . . h.sub.L,N) independent of one another, which provide them with a unique wave form coding. In addition, the co-channel signals have different but known training sequences. The multipath channel estimates of the primary signal (r.sub.1) and the at least one interfering co-channel signal (r.sub.2 -r.sub.N) are determined through the received training sequences. After this, the primary signal is detected by utilizing the transmission channel estimates of both the primary signal and the at least one interfering co-channel signal.

    • The object of the invention is a method to determine channel information in a cellular system, in which method user information is transmitted in information frames, which are transmitted by the current cell base station, and in which method neighbor cell base station information (105, 205, 305, 405, 505, 603, 612, 615, 622, 623, 632, 633) is received in order to synchronise to the neighbor cell base station. Preferably the method can be used to speed up or to enable the determination of channel information in connection with handover from the area of one base station to another. In the method according to the invention the user information transmission/reception is preferably interrupted during the reception (205, 305, 612, 632) of user information, which can be i.a. the signal level, the base station identity code (BSIC). In an urgent situation, during a rapid handover from one cell to another, said information can then be received at a sufficient rate, in other words also when an idle frame (102) can not be obtained in a favorable way. The information is not received simultaneously with the transmission/reception of user information, so that only one receiver is required.
