    • An electric oven toaster construction wherein a unique rotatable cam controls the bake, toasting and broiling modes of the oven toaster and simultaneously sets the threshold temperature of a thermostat switch during toasting, baking and broiling. The rotary cam includes a rearwardly extending rod portion having a radially outwardly extending lobe for cooperating with a cam follower portion of a bake switch for opening the bake switch when a bake operation is set and closing the bake switch when a toast operation is set. The rotatable cam also includes a circular disc portion positioned in front of the rod portion and integrally formed therewith. The circular disc portion has a cam surface that extends rearwardly and is in sliding engagement with a thermostat cam follower blade to set the thermostat cam follower for a particular toast color. Thus, with the unique integrally formed cam, when the cam is simply rotated to the toast position, the cam simultaneously closes the bake switch so that a solenoid will be energized to open the main switch when the toast cycle is complete and the cam also sets the thermostat cam follower to select a particular toast color.

    • An electric oven toaster construction wherein a unique inverted L-shaped lever is provided for controlling operation of an oven toaster switch and a toaster timer. The lever is pivotally mounted at the intersection of its legs and a generally horizontal leg extends outwardly from the oven toaster to a position where it may be manually actuated. The other leg extends downwardly for moving the toaster timer to its on position. The generally horizontal leg of the lever includes a downwardly extending latch arm which is movable into engagement with a solenoid armature for holding the lever and the switch in a closed position during a toasting cycle. Thus, at the end of a toasting cycle, the toaster timer actuates the solenoid to release the latch arm and a spring bias of the switch moves the switch and the inverted L-shaped lever to an open position.

    • An accessory cooking container for toaster/ovens comprises a pan and a cover, the pan having a generally rectangular flat bottom surrounded by upstanding sidewalls and a peripheral flange extending outwardly from the tops of the sidewalls. A lip bounds the perimeter of the peripheral flange. In one embodiment, the cover comprises a flat top surrounded by downwardly extending sidewalls and a peripheral flange extending outwardly from the bottom edges of the sidewalls. The flange is sized to be accommodated within the lip of the bottom, wherein the cover is restrained from sliding off the bottom. The flange of the pan defines a slot through which the flange of the cover may be gripped to remove the cover. The cover is optionally provided with a heat-resistant glass window having high transmissivity to infrared energy mounted in an opening in the top thereof. In another embodiment, the entire cover is fabricated of glass having high transmissivity to infrared energy, whereby infrared energy impedes on food in the pan and on the interior surfaces of the pan to speed cooking of the food. The cooking container (except for the glass) is fabricated of aluminum coated on both its interior and exterior surfaces by black Teflon. Thus, the cooking container absorbs heat rapidly. In particular, when used in a toaster/oven having both top and bottom heating elements, balanced cooking between the top and bottom surfaces of the food item within the container is achieved.

The toast load selector mechanism comprises a toast load selector member which is mounted concentrically with the brownness control knob, the toast load selector member defining first and second stops limiting the adjustment range of the brownness control to a subrange applicable to a given toast load selected by the toast load selector member. The toast load selector member is preferably held in yielding detent engagement in each of the toast load positions and indicia are provided for indicating the selected toast load position. Indicia indicating light or dark settings of the brownness control knob preferably applied to the toast load selector member adjacent the first and second stops.
