    • An indicia for marking on an object, such as a cartridge case, for representing selected information, such as identification indicia identifying the firearm that discharged the cartridge, and methods and apparatus for generating, imprinting and reading the identification indicia. An indicia includes a multi-dimensional array of encoded marks, including encoded marks determined by spectral encoding variables representing the selected information wherein each spectral variable is spectrally distinguishable from others of the spectral variables representing variables, and an encoded pattern of the encoded marks is determined by algorithmic transformation of the selected information. An indicia may also include hologram related artwork. An indicia may be an encoded hologram multi-dimensional barcode, an encoded hologram or an encoded concentric circular barcode and may be formed of a single indicia or as an array of indicia.

    • A laser beam delivery system for supplying a laser beam to a computer generated hologram which shapes and divides the supplied laser beam into a plurality of pseudo flat top laser beams. The plurality of pseudo flat top laser beams are then passed through collimated optics which alter the beams so that the beams are conveyed along the optical axis in a parallel manner. The plurality of collimated laser beams then passes through a converging mechanism which facilitates converging of the plurality of separated collimated laser beams through a clear aperture of a mirror of a first repeat positioning device so that all of the light is received by the repeat positioning device and appropriately reflected thereby to a second mirror of a second repeat positioning device and then to a rear surface of an F-Theta lens. The F-Theta lens focuses the plurality of separated collimated laser beams at the object to be processed. The converging mechanism facilitates converging of all of the supplied light so that substantially all of the supplied light passes through the clear aperture(s) of the repeat positioning device(s).

    • An apparatus and method for maintaining a desired position of a collimated light beam are provided. An optical system includes one or more passive optical elements movably positioned in the beam path. Beam position is responsive to movement of at least one of the passive optical elements. The actual position of the beam is detected and compared with the desired beam position. An error signal is generated and the beam path is altered responsive to movement of one or more of the passive optical elements. In further aspects, beam shaping optics, such diffractive optics, are provided to shape the sensed beam portion. In still other aspects, thermal conditions of the laser may be monitored and a thermal map is provided to automatically compensate for estimated beam drift due to thermal conditions.

    • An imaging system for ablating an array matrix of high-density vias in a flexible and rigid desired object. The apparatus contains a mirror based x, y scanning repeat positioning and/or a single axis scanner positioning system that directs a single point of a coherent light radiation beam at desired individual mask segments. These mask segments are formed into a planar mask array. A flat field collimating lens system is positioned between the mirror scanning system and the mask arrays to correct the angular beam output of the repeat positioning mirror and redirects the beam so that it strikes a specific rear surface segment(s) of in the mask array. The flat field collimating lens provides a beam that either illuminates the mask perpendicular to its surface or at preselected optimized illumination angles. Once illuminated, the specific segment of the mask array images and processes a single or a plurality of desired holes or features in a top surface of a flexible or rigid desired object to be processed.
