摘要： A gas collecting apparatus for a battery of coke oven chambers each having a gas discharge opening connected to a header pipe which is in turn connected to an elbow. At its outlet end, the elbow is divided into two side by side outlet pipes, each of which is provided with a valve for selectively blocking the flow of gas into a two chamber manifold pipe. These chambers are formed by a dividing wall extending along the length of the pipe. The valve for each outlet pipe includes a closure plate attached to a shaft having a lever contacting a guide bar which includes an inclined surface for actuating the valve. The inclined surface on the guide bar for each valve is separated by a distance greater than the distance separating the shaft for each valve, so that both valves or one valve can be closed depending upon the position of the guide bar.

摘要： A process for quenching coke from coke ovens by independent spray pipes arranged parallel to each other to extend along the length of a coke transfer car while located beneath the chimney of a quenching tower. The coke transfer car has an inclined support floor to provide a progressively decreasing depth of coke transverse to the car. The water discharged by each pipe is controlled to start after successive intervals of time, for example, after 10-second intervals within a 100-second or greater quenching period. The water discharge control is such that the maximum depth of coke is sprinkled with water throughout the entire quenching process while successively lesser depths of coke are quenched for progressively decreasing periods of time.

摘要： A coal charging apparatus for a battery of coke ovens which is divided into groups of oven chambers such that a coal charging apparatus is provided for each group. The charging holes for the oven chambers define rows of charging holes extending in a direction along the length of the battery of coke ovens. The rows of charging holes within each group of coke ovens receive coal from separate feed pipes each connected to a coal charging hopper having a coal receiving opening at its upper end in constant communication with a closable outlet of a coal storage bin. The coal storage bin is supported by a frame above the coke ovens where it receives coal from a conveyor. The coal storage bin has an outlet pipe passing through a stationary duct to communicate with the underlying coal charging hopper. Openings in the floor of the duct are used to withdraw charging gases flowing into a charging hopper from an oven chamber while coal is charged therein. The duct at each side includes rails to support paris of wheels that are, in turn, connected by piston and cylinder assemblies to a coal charging hopper for vertical displacement thereof into a sealed relation with the duct.

摘要： An air heater with an internal combustion chamber is supplied with gas from an externally provided burner which can be shut off from the combustion chamber by means of a hot gas slide valve. This valve lies between the burner and an elbow, with a refractory lining. A water-cooled support ring provides a thermal barrier between the elbow and a transition pipe to couple the burner output to the combustion chamber. A hot air exhaust opening controlled by a slide valve is arranged in the combustion chamber to overlie the point of entry of hot gases from the burner.

摘要： A quencher car runs along a track in front of a carriage that is movable along the front of a battery of coke ovens and that supports a tubular coke guide through which coke can be pushed from any oven into the quencher car. The carriage also carries a fume-collecting hood that projects laterally from it over the track to over- lie the quencher car. The hood has an inner side wall provided with an opening registering with the outlet of the guide. An exhaust pipe secured to the hood has an inlet in the upper part of the hood. A suction duct extends lengthwise of the track beside the outer side wall of the hood, and the outlet of the exhaust pipe communicates with the inside of the suction duct and is movable lengthwise thereof by the carriage.
