    • A dual mode smart card controller is provided. In one embodiment, a USB and ISO7816 smart card controller is provided that determines the type of card that is inserted into a slot. If the smart card is a USB smart card, the controller is adapted to pass control of the smart card to an external PC host USB hub circuit. If the smart card is an ISO7816 card, then control is handled by the dual mode controller. In another embodiment, the controller includes an embedded USB hub circuit to permit the controller to directly control both USB and ISO7816 smart cards. Exemplary control sequencing includes monitoring a C4 signal line for a preselected time period, or generating an enable signal if a USB smart card is detected.

    • The present invention provides a low-cost, highly flexible display system which comprises a programmable CPU, a LCD module for displaying visual information, an array of light emitters for providing backlighting to the LCD module, an array of light emitter driver circuits, and an array controller. The programmable CPU accesses ROM and RAM memory and comprises at least one input/output protocol for communicating with components on the display system. A single light driver circuit controls the intensity of a set of light emitters. The array controller connects to a number of light emitter driver circuits and acts as a central point of communication between the CPU and the array of light emitter driver circuits and color sensors.

The software issues a request and transmits it to the controller. The request is further transferred from the controller to the data device. The data device is coupled to the controller through the serial interface. The data device is further coupled to the media card. According to the request, the data device exchanges data with the controller and the media card.

    • A cardbus controller is provided that reduces signal count and board area. In one exemplary embodiment, the controller is adapted to multiplex selected signals in a two PC Card system so that signal lines are not repeated. The selected signals may include common signals between two PC Cards. The controller may also include early detection circuitry, arbitration circuitry and power management circuitry to more effectively operate two PC Cards. In other exemplary embodiments, the invention provides a method of reducing the chip area of a PC Card controller integrated circuit by mapping an internal IDSEL signal to an external address line.

    • The present invention provides a device for connecting a contactless integrated chip card (ICC) to a host computer having a USB host input/output bus interface, comprising a first logic set, a second logic set, and a third logic set. The first logic set detects the presence of an external radio frequency transceiver RF circuitry which communicates with the contactless ICC. The second logic set includes a Chip/smart Card Interface Device (CCID) interface, wherein the CCID interface is enabled when the first logic set positively detects the presence of the RF circuitry. The third logic set converts data received by the CCID interface to a format compatible with the USB host input/output signal interface so as to connect the contactless ICC to the host computer.
