    • A bicycle frame assembly having a number of rotatable members configured to absorb shocks and impacts associated with operation of the bicycle. The assembly includes a frame constructed to support a rider and a chain stay having a rearward end that extends toward a wheel hub and a forward end that is pivotably connected to the frame. An absorber is pivotably connected to the forward end of the chain stay and extends to a rocker arm that is pivotably connected to the frame. A seat stay is pivotably connected to a rearward end of the rocker arm and extends to the rearward end of the chain stay. The rearward ends of the seat stay and the chain stay are pivotably connected to rotate about a common axis.

    • An adjustable control apparatus for a video game pad that enables a user to adjust the tension of the apparatus to enhance the comfort and control of the apparatus and the video game pad. The assembly of the control apparatus includes a positioning member or stick which is nested inside a housing. The assembly also includes a clutch member and a tension member assembled between the stick and housing. The positioning member and housing are connected or otherwise held together using a support member such as a C-ring. The C-ring fits into a groove on the shaft of the stick. A flexible member is positioned between the stick and the housing. Additionally, a signal transfer member is connected to or assembled to a circuit board such as a PC board to transfer electrical signals or the like from the control apparatus to the circuit board.

    • The vibrating probe of a scanning force microscope is brought into engagement with a sample surface in an initial approach process moving the probe toward the sample surface until the amplitude of probe vibration at an excitation frequency is measurably affected by forces between the tip and the sample, an then in a final approach process in which a change in vibration amplitude caused by a dithering vibration superimposed on the excitation vibration exceeds a pre-determined threshold limit. The excitation frequency is reduced if the phase angle of vibrations exceeds another limit, and the amplitude of the excitation driving function is increased as the amplitude or tip vibration falls below a setpoint. During approach and scanning, vibration amplitude is measured through a demodulator having an intermediate reference signal locked in phase with the tip motion signal.
