    • Authorized use of a wireless subscriber system, e.g. cellular telephone system, is distinguished from unauthorized use by electronically observing a plurality of external signal traits which represent alterations in the radio frequency signal due to physical characteristics identified with a particular transmitter. Examples of such external signal traits include those which are produced as a consequence of manipulating the carrier to encode information upon it and those produced by transmitter timing circuit idiosyncrasies. The external signal traits are converted into a signature code or security pattern which is then stored along with the existing subscriber system identification code to generate a historic security pattern database for use in subsequent authorized use validation.

    • A washing method and apparatus characterized by employment of the electric form of energy in addition to the traditional three forms of energy (kinetic energy, thermal energy, and chemical energy) to do the work of cleaning, thereby reducing the requirement for and dependency on the traditional three forms of energy. Electric charge is employed to do work of cleaning by various physical phenomena. The phenomena include, but are not limited to effecting the physical characteristics of surface chemistry, the physical characteristics of water, and the chemical characteristics of water, Such characteristics include but are not limited to surface tension, agitation, hydrolization, and adhesion. Such effects of the physical or chemical characteristics are temporary, and are not detectable after the washing water is discarded so as to have minimal polluting effect on the environment. After the cleaning work is done, this temporary energy effect of the physical or chemical characteristics is just as transient, undetectable and non-polluting as is the thermal energy of hot water that has been cooled or the kinetic energy of moving water that has been stopped. Previous to this invention, the work of cleaning was done by three forms of energy: Thermal energy, kinetic energy, and chemical energy. This invention adds electric energy to the forms of energy that do the work of cleaning. Of the four forms of energy, the only one that remains in the waste water is chemical energy. Adding this additional form of energy allows the reduction of requirement for work to be done by any or all of the other forms of energy. The net result is the transfer of the work load from chemical energy, thus resulting in less dependence on the one form of energy that pollutes the environment.

    • An automatic laundry washing machine that is suitable for use in living units having no area set aside for laundry facilities is achieved by replacing the heavy bulky parts of the currently popular automatic washing machine design with a light flexible bag. A large portion of the volume of any washing machine is the vessel for containing the laundry solution and articles to be washed. That vessel is a flexible bag made of modern durable material so as to be collapsible both while in use and for storage. The method of use includes the complete process of washing, rinsing, and extracting excess water in an automatic cycle analogous to standard automatic washing machines popular today. The vessel containing the items being laundered is a waterproof laundry bag with automatic washing apparatus attached. Items are automatically washed in that bag. The automatic process includes cycles of filling, washing, rinsing and extracting such that the clothes are ready for a drying process such as hanging out to dry or putting into a tumble dryer. The agitating of the washing and rinsing cycles is accomplished without the familiar bulky agitator thereby reducing the volume requirements and the traditional wear and tear on the garments. By eliminating the bulky agitator and the spin water extraction method, the heavy transmission is also eliminated. The water extraction cycle is done in a much less violent way than the conventional spin cycle by allowing atmospheric pressure to collapse the washing vessel and press the water from the articles as the water and air are pumped from the vessel in the draining portion of the cycle. The cleaning ability of the water is enhanced by built in ionic processing of the water thereby reducing the required amount of laundry detergent. The agitating in the non-electrically conductive vessel generates static electric charges in the process and ions thus produced further enhance the cleaning ability of the water. Cavitation produced in a multi-frequency washing action further enhances the washing ability of the water. The washing machine is light, compact and collapsible and is as portable as a piece of luggage. The set up procedure is simple and no assembly is required beyond attaching a quick connect fastener to a water faucet and plugging in a power cord. The washing machine is light and takes little storage space. It can be put in a small closet or on a shelf when not in use. The minimum capacity of the washing machine is a single garment. The normal capacity of the washing machine is comparable to that of a standard household washing machine.

    • A transmitter identification system to determine if cellular phones in a cellular phone system are authorized as distinguished from cloned phones, operated by fraudulent users, that are unauthorized. Components used in the manufacture of cellular phones vary slightly from one phone to anther so that, when the phones are used, the transmitter signals from each phone have different external signal traits. For each cellular phone call, the transmitter signal is received and characterized using a received set of features resulting from the external signal traits. The received set of features is compared with previously stored sets of Features in a database to determine if the call is authorized or unauthorized and, if unauthorized, the call is stopped and access to the fraudulent user is denied.

    • Apparatus for identifying wireless subscriber units and for granting or denying access to a subscriber service includes a plurality of wireless subscriber units each for generating a wireless subscriber signal including internal data traits and external signal traits. The internal data traits include an identification code. The plurality of wireless subscriber units also receive a transmitter/receiver signal. A receiver/transmitter is located remote from the wireless subscriber units and receives the wireless subscriber signal and transmits the transmitter/receiver signal. A characterizing device is connected to the receiver/transmitter and generates a plurality of characterizing signals for one of said wireless subscriber units. The characterizing device generates said plurality of characterizing signals by measuring features of said external traits of said one of said wireless subscriber signal from at least one of a first category including variations of specified parameters of said one of said wireless subscriber units, a second category including variations in non specified parameters, and a third category including variations in reactions or responses to interrogations. A converter connected to the characterizing device converts the plurality of characterizing signals into a security pattern. The security pattern and the identification code are used to identify said one of said wireless subscriber units. A historic security pattern storing device stores historic security patterns for said wireless subscriber units. A comparing device connected to the converter and the historic security pattern storing device compares the security pattern to the historic security pattern corresponding to said one of said wireless subscribers and generates a confidence level indicating a likelihood that one of said wireless subscriber units also generated the historic security pattern. An access device grants or denies access to the subscriber service based upon the confidence level.
