    • A method for determining at least one operating parameter to determine the operating condition of a polyphase electric motor system comprises sensing the instantaneous current signal and the instantaneous voltage signal as a function of time for more than one electrical phase of the motor. The sensed current signals and the sensed voltage signals are both amplitude demodulated and phase demodulated to provide amplitude demodulated current and voltage signals as a function of time and phase demodulated current and voltage signals as a function of time. The resulting amplitude and phase demodulated signals are used to determine one or more of the following electrical parameters as a function of time: total real power, real power per phase, total reactive power, reactive power per phase, total apparent power, apparent power per phase, overall power factor, power factor per phase, electrical impedance per phase, and electrical balance.

    • A method of stably identifying and characterizing a transient contained in a sampled set of data, the data representing a physical event, where alignment of the sample points with the transient is typically arbitrary. The method includes the step of analyzing the first data set using a predefined mathematical operator to produce a second data set, detecting and isolating the discrete data pattern in the second data set, determining a location of the detected and isolated data pattern in the second data set, measuring a difference between the location of the detected and isolated data pattern and a predetermined location of the predefined mathematical operator, adjusting preselected parameters of the mathematical operator in accordance with the measured location difference such that the adjusted mathematical operator is aligned with the detected and isolated data pattern, and reanalyzing the first data set using the aligned mathematical operator.

    • A method is disclosed for approximating the stem thrust during the operation of a motor operated valve combination including a valve having a valve stem, a valve disk, a valve seat, and a motor operator having a motor drive means interconnecting the motor to the valve stem for movement of the valve stem disk toward and into engagement with the valve seat to close the valve and a control switch for deactivating the motor. The method comprises the steps of sensing the stem thrust of the motor operated valve combination as a function of time during valve closing at a first time and establishing a thrust trace; sensing the real electrical power of the motor as a function of time during valve closing at a second time which is subsequent to the first time and establishing a power trace; relating corresponding points of the thrust trace and the power trace starting at a point on each trace corresponding to the onset of wedging of the valve disk and extending to a point of the power trace at which the control switch deactivates the motor; determining from the power trace the value of the power at the zero thrust point; determining a best fit analytical function that takes into account the zero thrust power point and the changing thrust vs change in power relationship described by the corresponding time points of the two traces from the onset of wedging to deactivation of the motor by the control switch; and approximating from the best fit analytical function a thrust value associated with a point on the power trace at the second time.

    • Briefly stated the motor speed monitor includes a method of determining a shaft speed of a motor by using an electrical signature of the motor. The method includes: (a) sensing an electrical current supplied to the motor to generate a current sensor output signal for at least one electrical phase of the motor; (b) demodulating the current sensor output signal for a predetermined time interval to obtain an instantaneous amplitude of the electrical current signal; (c) generating a frequency spectrum of the instantaneous current amplitude; (d) finding at least one spectral peak of the instantaneous current amplitude frequency spectrum within a predetermined shaft frequency sideband range; (e) estimating a shaft frequency from the at least one spectral peak and converting the shaft frequency to shaft speed.

    • A portable, self-contained, microprocessor controlled apparatus for monitoring, storing and transmitting detected physiological information, including an input section for sequentially receiving analog signals corresponding to heart activity for as many as twelve different cardiac sensors. An input section is provided for receiving analog electrical signals corresponding to blood pressure from at least one sensor. An analog to digital converter is provided for converting the received analog signals to a series of digital pulses at a predetermined sampling rate and for receiving and storing the digital pulses in predetermined memory locations. A control section is provided for recalling the stored digital pulses from the memory and for receiving the recalled digital pulses and for transmitting them to a remote location over a communications system. In the preferred embodiment, the input section is for receiving analog signals corresponding to cardiac conductivity, brainwave activity, blood pressure, blood flow and other ultrasonic cardiovascular and intracranial data. The latter signals are also converted to digital form for storage and later recall and transmission to a remote location.
